non-adrenaline anesthesia

Hi all,

I know to ask the dentist about having non-adrenaline injections, but I'm due to have a sedated endoscopy tomorrow and wondered if the same applies to injections in the arm? Any idea?

Normal Intravenous sedation would not contain adrenaline. It is used in a dental situation into the tissues, nerve round the tooth concerned. Adrenaline is included because it causes minor blood vessels to contract thus keeping the anaesthetic 'local' to the tooth and reduces bleeding (don't worry the dentists are well equipped to stop bleeding in other ways)This is why when using non adrenaline/ epinephrine injection at dentist you may need a top up if procedure is lengthy and why with non use of adrenaline your numb face gets better more quickly.

The IV injection is sedation not anaesthetic and they want it to circulate to sedate you.

Dentists syringes prevent injection into a vein in error ( allegedly)
