Af with no apparent trigger

Hi all

I’m getting af episodes now about once a month with no apparent trigger. It was always alcohol but yesterday it came on with no beer for a week. Also the 150mg flecanide pip didn’t do the job. The 2nd 150mg dose worked after 12 hours

Considering asking my ep for a 2nd touch up ablation after my 1st cryo last sept which he says is an option .?

Cheers

You have AF you will have AF. Triggers are a distraction for most people. As my EP said to me in 2005 "looking for triggers is the way to madness." Alcohol is the ony exception and should be avoided from day one for many people.

I’ve never known what my triggers are, just that I’m in AF and I’ve got no other health issues. Just the way it is.

Triggers are easier to spot if you have vagally mediated AF.

I believe an episode can start through an accumulation of factors not just one, making it much harder to identify what and when was the key culprit eg if you have had a stressful day and sat down in the evening to watch a crime drama with a cold fizzy drink - all 3 could be enough to tip you into AF but anyone on its own would not.

No stand out triggers. I did eat a large meal at 7pm. And had a Diet Coke with it. Part from that nothing

Probably that was it. Eat before 6pm, only light incl no or little meat (especially red) and no no no Coke, just still water.

Thanks mine all seem to start around 2 or 3 in the morning when I’m asleep

Have you checked for sleep apnoea, could be contributing to the issue even if only mild like mine tested. I use BreatheRight nasal strips.

Large meals trigger me. Although many doctors don't emphasize the distinction, look up vagal afib. Also carbonation can put pressure on digestive areas. I avoid it.

Diet Coke contains an artificial sweetener (aspertame). It is a trigger for me.

The Diet Coke may have been the trigger, because it contains caffeine. It is quite common for caffeine to trigger AF. I only drink decaf coffee/tea, then just still water.

I agree on the Aspartane and caffeine too.
