Had pre op yesterday at UHCW,andcwas delighted to be given our very own Patient advice booklet!
Not quite as inspired by the Arrthymia nurse( there are four there two are excellent....)
I asked about follow up if I'm concerned,as it's booked for day before Big Bank Holiday. Will there be A. Nurses around?
Ah no she said, but I'm sure someone could help. I said anyone in particular? A n E, cleaners, security? Oh no she said you can ring the unit they'll give you a number ... I think (!)
Then she turned to meds dose etc. Got to Flecanide and was googling the dose on screen. No luck, then got out another patients paperwork and looked it up on there😲
I asked about success rates . She said oh they do hundreds of these a year.
Yes but are they successful?
Usually.
Gulp.
I left feeling a bit uneasy especially as I had to go back on and ask about food and drink. Oh she said, yes forgot. You're booked in for 8 am so no food or drink four hours before.
As I'm not in the habit of snacking at 4 am that should be fine I said. Straight over head!
Lol you gotta larf!
Really pleased to get my booklet though. Mr W has been instructed to read it...😁

Sometimes it really makes you wonder. Doesnt inspire much confidence does it. The other day I rang and asked for cardiology the message on the ansaphone was “cardiology is not available try another department”. Which I wondered, maybe obstetrics, orthopaedics, urology. I had to laugh.
Well, she was no confidence booster was she, sounds like bit of a novice. It's usually no food after midnight and just some water to take your tabs with before 6am. Remind me are you having GA or sedation?
Sedation, quite honestly would prefer to be knocked out due to back issues but I've made them aware of them and asked for plenty of pain relief to help me manage to lie still.I'll make sure nothing after my little sip with morning tabs.
Thank you Jean. Unfortunately no she has been there three years to my knowledge but hey ho!
The ablation went well. No issues. Quite quick recovery. But unfortunately it hasn’t worked as I’m getting just as many Af episodes now as I did before the op. The ep at Coventry has offered me a touch up 2nd ablation.
i was taken by ambulance on the 9th of this month told by the paramedics that my heart was bouncing around all over the place left at the QMC 1.50 pm .in a corridor 2nd in there paramedics but my wrist band on when the nurse was asking other about allegises i said to her you have not asked me i dont need to you have a red band on 2hrs later moved further along the corridor hr and later moved into main area but not a cubical then finnally a sister spoke with me she needed to due an ECG so must have a cubical 6pm moved into cubical for ECG then the sister came back and asked am i on warfrin yes what dose are you taking i also told her i was insulin dependent and need it . all this time i am on oxegen struggling to breath 8 hrs after arriving i get to speak to a DR told i havent had a heart attack so i said i did nt think i had but they counld nt regulate the heart or the breathing 17 and half hrs later sent home .every time i go into a hospital i write the story up and keep a record of the event then when you look back later it makes your blood curl is there any hope i dont think so
Goodness I never had an actual pre op only a phone call 2 months yes 2 months before so no questions by me I was just answering his questions.I was like you but it all went very well.I had GA on 16th May .I was given hardly any aftercare instruction except take it easy and don't shower for 24hours and no bathing or swimming for a week.It will be fine.Let us know how it all goes.
Wilsond,Well I hope I don't get the same nurse at my pre-op at UHCW tomorrow :-(My ablation is scheduled for Monday June 6th, I'm in rural Warwickshire so it's going to be quite an effort to get there by 8 am!
Me too! It's an effort to get there. Ask her to ring me back will you! Left ansafone messages yesterday and today ,got a query. Still waiting 🙂I'm in on 1st June I'll let you know how it goes.
i was told yesterday that i have lung descease as well as my heart failure AF and a mecanical mitral for the past few days my heart as been racing away at 130 bpm then quickly dropping down to 55 25 then jumping up to 125 plus i am really struggling to breath up to now i have been discharged by 3 cardiologist , they dont know what to do with me so they just discharge me
Did her name begin with a C perchance? If I see her, I always feel like she's about to nod off and I need to jog her memory about what she's supposed to be doing.🙄.
That's the one lol! I rang back yesterday with a query and ansafone. No call back so tried again today ...seems I'm out of luck today too....third time lucky maybe.Got to get PCR test time too, either by post or phone.
Interested how you're supposed to get a PCR test by phone 😁. Its usually a guy called Dan who rings you with an appointment to go through the drive thru.Yes, the nurse in question was one of 2 tasked with looking after me when I came out of the lab. Mine was done over at the Meriden so they didn't have a ward full of patients to watch over but it seemed to be the other nurse doing more of the checking up on me. When C did turn up and discovered I was still bleeding, she shoved another dressing on and told me to shove my fist there for half a hour!
Bearing in mind, I was still woozy from the sedation, she's lucky I was with it enough to do it.
When I still wasn't too clever at knocking off time, the other nurse stayed with me for an extra hour and a half until I was able to leave whilst C buggered off!!!
Fingers crossed she's not on duty on your A Day 🤞.
Try your EPs secretary or switchboard and ask for ward 21 if you get no joy with the arrhythmia nurse phone. 😊.
Thanks for that Ducky fingers crossed she's off on leave for the jubilee 😁🤞🤞I'll keep in mind the ward / sec thought. I've just tried again and got ansafone
Left a message saying I'd appreciate a call back as been trying since Wednesday!
