There was an article on Livestrong.com. Thought it might be of interest to newbies to the Vagal Nerve.

How wonderful would it be if gastroenterologists and cardiac electrophysiologists worked together to provide a holistic approach to arrhythmias. I suffer with gut and heart issues… but both specialists unaware of the vagal nerve! I still have NO medical dx for my fainting spells. Not afib I was told, not constipation said the other. Not this, not that, don’t know we’ll work it out on autopsy said the neurologist. I’ve got “over” it myself by over drinking copious amounts of water, adding electrolytes, avoiding getting overheated, overeating, over-exercising! LOL

Sometimes that's the only way. No one else can know your body like you.

All the best.

Hello Roy. Thank you for sharing! I was very interested in the article because I suffered 2 syncopes. Both time I was walking doing some deep breathing, instead of breathing slowly through the nose and extending the expiration like I recently learned, I was more hyperventilating. The first time I fell in a park and bounced back a few minutes later and walked back to the car, but felt a strong nausea and my heart pounding. The next day I was hospitalized for rapid afib. A week later as I walked to the bathroom in the hospital, getting ready for a cardioversion, again I was doing some deep breathing, trying to slow down my heart . I went into sustained vtach, vfib and cardiac arrest. I was very fortunate to be at the hospital and on a cardiac monitor. The heart MRI found out some scar tissue. 2 days later, I was fitted a pacemaker and a defibrilator. According to the EP, that could be a consequence of the agressive treatment of my colon cancer 8 years ago. However my paroxysmal afib appears to be vagal. Since the syncopes of last year,I converted to afib only a few times and always at night!
