Hi all

Well the Cardioversion only lasted 2 days so that’s the last time for that option baring life threatening situation.

I have had 3 ablations so exhausted that option too.

Where do I go from here???

I am now in persistent AF and diagnosed with Heart Failure as a result.

I know the final option is AV node ablation and pacemaker but have now been advised that it’s not always successful but it is irreversible so if I get to that stage it will be a tough decision.

What other options are there ?

Has anyone got a pacemaker and AF controlled by other means?

Any info would be appreciated

Hello Lainie, sorry to hear that your CV wasn’t a total success, but generally even if it only lasts a couple of days, they say there is a chance that an ablation might succeed but having already had 3, your situation might be different. Assuming you haven’t been formally advised by your specialist as to what options may be available, I don’t think there is necessarily a limit to the numbers of ablations someone can have. I have heard some members talk in terms of six or more but of course, I’m not familiar with their personal circumstances. I guess it’s possible that another CV could be offered but this time using a powerful rhythm drug such as Amiodarone either side of the procedure to help keep you in rhythm.

I’m not medically trained, but as I understand it, provided folk who have permanent AF do not necessarily suffer from heart failure provided their heart rate is controlled and even if there are signs of heart failure, there is a chance that this can be controlled and even reversed. It’s not an area where I have any personal experience but hopefully others who have, will soon share their experiences…..

Thank youI have been told a further ablation will do more harm than good so that’s not an option.

I was just getting my head round the AV node pace and ablate as a final (irreversible ) procedure to be told by Arythmia nurse it doesn’t always work or make a difference !!!

But consultant is now telling me it’s my only option.
