I have been taking 5mg of Melatonin on and off through the years to manage bouts of insomnia. Recently I have noticed that without taking Melatonin I am waking up with Afib through the night but if I take it before bed I'm sleeping through and not either not noticing the Afib, or not actually getting it. Didn't take it last night and have had an episode since the very early hours. I'm also on 50mg Felcainide twice daily, which is fairly effective at keeping the symptoms at bay but not so much at night.

Melatonin and night time Afib. An observation
Just to show that we are all different there was a post recently suggesting the exact opposite if I remember correctly? What works for you works for you.
'Fairly effective' is not really good enough as my understanding is any AF episodes increases the chances of more. You are on a low dose of Flecainide and if I was you I would talk to your cardiologist about increasing this to a medium dose (100mgs x2 daily). All this AF stuff is not an exact science but a judgement that there is more upside than downside.
Thanks, secondtry. I've been living with this for 10 years and have only recently has anyone started to take it seriously, including a number of cardiologists. Scheduled for a cardioversion in a week so living in hope, rather than expectation, of a review of dosage and treatment after this.
I started on Flec 50mgs x2 daily and had 9 episodes in a month! Two cardios and an EP offered an ablation but I requested a try on Flec 100mgs x2 first and that together with many other lifestyle changes has stopped AF for 8 years. I should add I am 68yo now, no other comorbidities, active and was diagnosed with Lone PAF after many tests.
That's interesting, thank you. Gives me a discussion point about options with the Cardiologist as I suspect the cardio won't fix this, I do come in and out of Afib. I'm cynical about my success chances with ablation given the fact that I've been living with this for so long, I think it's been left for too long now for that to work. 57 years old, active but have developed mild mitral valve regurgitation and primary AV block over the time that my condition has been ignored. Not that I'm bitter about it
