I’m scheduled for my fourth (final?) ablation this time for atrial flutter. The EP asks me to stop taking Metoprolol (50mg 2x) and Flecainide (50mx 2x) four days prior. Additionally to stop amlodipine day of procedure.
What are peoples’ experiences who have done this? I’m currently back in NSR due to a cardioversion so I’m not looking forward to going out… or is that an unnecessary concern?

I had to have minor procedure for bleeding bowel in November during Covid issues / testing, nhs communications and delays (6 month)I was confused by hospital pre-procedure instructions and stopped Apixaban and Bisoprolol 1.25 for 4 days.
Afterwards - I got a "funny turn"Went to EP cardiologist who said I should only have stopped Apixaban and stayed on Bisoprolol
Now ok, and being careful with double checking etc
Thank you for your post, it is not unknown that many individuals are requested to halt their medications prior to a procedure, this decision is taken by the consultant performing the ablation and and will take into account your own personal risks. If you have any concerns or questions, these should be highlighted direct with your EP. You may find 'Catheter for AF' on our US patient resources webpage heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...
I’m not questioning whether or not to come off drugs prior to procedure … just want to know the experiences of those who did. Apparently no one has? Since I’ve heard from no one.
When is your ablation? Mine is March 23. I can let you know. I’ll also ask if I came off the medication last year. I take xarelto and Diltiazem. Also, what about posting the question again. Maybe some didn’t see it.
I am sorry I reply that late, but I hope my answer can be useful for someone reading the forum.I have had two RF catheter ablations and both times needed to quit medications about day prior. For me, it was needed so EP can stimulate different zones in the heart to provoke AF. Provoking is needed so they can find the exact place where your arrythmias start and then scar the tissue. With medications, your heart may not go into arrythmia and so locating the problematic part of the heart can be challenging if not possible.
I must say it sure was diffult for me to be without medication for so long, as my heart really tried to go into AF all the time during this 24h + period.
