Does anyone notice a very low heart rate when taking bisoprolol?
Low heart rate bisoprolol: Does anyone... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Low heart rate bisoprolol
What is your heart rate, bisoprolol dosage?Has your heart rate dropped a lot since starting the medication?
Heart rate is mostly below 50 it was higher before bisoprolol and only taking 1.25 dosage
I had this it was going down to 36 at night and not getting that much over 50 during the day - unless I exercised. I felt so rotten that one morning when I didn’t even have the strength to walk downstairs my wife called my cardio and he said to stop taking them. I am not saying that is what you should do but just saying that this is something that does happen - I was on the same dose as you. They did try other medication but all pretty much had the same effect so in the end am just taking apixaban. Make sure to tell your cardio nurse and cardiologist or EP.
G'day trixie,
I've been on Bisoprolol since Jan 2010 - initially 5 mg. Since Jan 2021 ( roughly, I think) I've been on 7.5 mg.
During the day my average resting HR is around 67 to 72. Ideal !
During the night it can drop to between 46 to 58.
Occasionally, during the day it can bottom out at 46.
It's my friend for life .... along with Warfarin, my forever friend.
I only had one problem with it, right in the beginning. I developed random dynamic/heavy nose bleeds. Went to my GP who got out her Book of Magic Witches Potions and Brews, hummed and harred and said take it at night. At the time of the nose bleeds I was taking it in the morning as directed by my Cardio Consultant.
Job done, sorted. No nosebleeds or other problems since.

Yes and was taken off it
Yes, I stopped taking it and with the agreement of my GP and EP I now only use it as a PiP.
Post AFib diagnosis, I only took 1.25mg bisoprolol tablets for 8 days only. My resting HR dropped fom 70 into the 40s, extreme fatigue , excercise intolerance ( max hr 117 ish could only run 100 yards) , asleep 40 minutes after taking a tab, woke up feeling terrible with pain in arms. A week earlier I could run 6 miles in 50 minutes cross country! It was obviously the bisiorolol! I tried atenolol 25 mg for 2 weeks - better , but still bad, my gp decided I did not tolerate beta blockers and put me on verapamil, a calcium channel blocker, no problems with sude effects. If the "cure" is worse than the disease try something else! There are other beta blockers and calcium channel blockers that can be used for rate control of afib. Try them till you find one that has no/ few issues.
Note: not slagging bisoprolol, it appears to work very well for many people, but not for me!
Hi Yes I found bisoprolol lowered my heart rate 2 years ago and my Dr stopped it. But I have been put back on 2.5 dose a few days after my 3rd ablation a week ago because I am having frequent episodes of AF and Aflutter. It has lowered my Bp and heart rate mostly to around 50 bpm but i do have a pacemaker now that is set at 50 bpm x
Hi I also have a low pulse and was put on 1.25 of Bisoprolol for my ectopics but it took my pulse down to 30s at night and 40s in the day. Went to GP and was told to stop taking it and use it as a PIP but not sure this is the right pill to use as a PIP. I will be seeing my cardiologist next week and see what he says.
