Pradaxa...stop taking? Continue?

Hi all. I am 4 yrs post ablation. Other than a few instances of rapid hb lasting 45 mins or less, I've been great!

My physician has suggested I no longer need blood thinners (pradaxa). I have no side effects from pradaxa, no bleeding issues even during home renovation injuries.

I worry about stroke and have opted to continue taking it.

Is there any reason I should discontinue taking it? Physician says its my decision.

Has anyone opted to discontinue blood thinners?

Many of us here agree totally. The top people know that even successsful ablation does not remove stoke risk so unless your Chadsvasc score was zero before you ablation nest to carry on. I haven't had AF since 2008 but other arryhtmias have come and gone and I will never stop my warfarin.

Thank you. I know of stroke victims, not AF related. Terrible...

My mom was sort of in your shoes and she opted out but Honestly I would stay on it even if I’m Afib free. It’s better to be safe I don’t think there is any harm in it or side effects at least for me.

I did stop (chad 0) but am back on it since being back in afib. The doctor said not to bother but I insisited.

For me play safe is best.

Hi Ethel.

No - another CV so I would have to go back on it anyway. We'll see how long this takes !

I hope all is good with you.

Sure Ethel. Little high for my liking if it's all the time. TBH I wonder if I should bother with another although I did get 2 years out of the last one.

Hard call for both of us !

Have a lovely evening.

I had a successful ablation in January of this year and have had no af or flutter since. However, I have been told that because of my age and because I am female I should stay on Pradaxa for life.
