Hello guys,

I've only just recently had the device so I'm a real newbie, been trying to capture my 'blips', so frustrating has they are in-between test runs, it's like it knows it's trying to be caught. I grabbed a little run at the end of the test, it did feel like very mild AF to me, what do you think? I attached it

I want to add the middle of the test too, when I was steady, just before I felt it - also was very still throughout the whole test

It looks like AF but I'm no expert. I would need to see a longer run. You can do that on one page if you go for single lead rather than 6 lead.

It doesn't look like AF to me-more like electrical interference. And the device is very good at detecting AF and would almost certainly have flagged it if there had been any.

I normally only use the 1 lead to capture AF and because your Lead 1 is inverted it’s hard to see, especially as there seems to be movement or interference. Your second pic is slightly clearer.

My protocol is that I only use a 1 lead for AF but as and when my doctors ask for a Trace, I will send a 6 lead for more information because reading ECG’s is for experts only.

May I suggest that you try a 1 lead and ensure the trace has the pointy bits upward rather than downwards, keep ultra still and take the trace well away from all electrical interference, then you would have a clearer trace. Below is one of mine showing Atrial Fibrilation with fast rate. I think it was about 140.

The Algorithm will pick up whether or not you are in AF and it says Normal Sinus Rhythm. AF is characterised on Lead 1 ECG with irregular rate and lack of P wave.

Mine below says Atrial Fibrillation so this is something like what it may look like.

For anything beyond that - either take a course in reading ECG’s or ask a friendly specialist for explanation.

Hope that helps.

🤔 I’m far from an expert and it’s pretty hard to tell from the small example you’ve given but to me that looks similar to my af in that you’ve got a very big gap between 1 beat and the other 3 look consistent.

Have you got a bigger sample and also what device are you recording it on?

Here’s an example of mine below.

Maybe if that was the only blip then your device didn’t notify you as possible af? Again hard to tell as such a small sample.

Was that trace upside down or did you hold the Kardia the wrong way round? Kardia seems unable to properly label runs of ectopic beats, also. This trace from mine was not AF according to my specialist, whereas the second (separate post) was, but that was from my Apple Watch.

Here is the Apple Watch trace. Symptom-wise, I felt the same during both this and the one above.

That’s very interesting, the Kardia shows the ‘magnitude’ of the impulses while the Apple Watch mainly shows rhythm. I find the difference in power of beats has a lot to do with how I feel when in AF. So on the watch your rhythm doesn’t seem to be very uneven, on the Kardia things look far mor chaotic.

Yes - it is the "power" that is felt. I was surprised when my cardiologist said the Kardia wasn't AF but erratic ectopic beats yet the Apple was AF. My GP said they were both AF. I tend to think the cardiologist is better than the Kardia, though! ;-)

This one is also from the Apple Watch which labelled it as "Poor Recording" although it recorded accurately as I felt each beat strongly.

Looks the other way round to me! But not arguing, I was told on one occasion I had AF and the cardiologist said atrial tachycardia, clearly reading an ECG is tricky 🤔

There are so many arrhythmias that we tend to focus on AF or AFl. I get mild (?) tachycardia most morning while eating breakfast (90-130 bpm), for example, but both apps also show this as "NSR" usually with "wide QRS" (I have some LBBB, too).

If by power you mean the height of the beats then the new apples watch shows this. Not sure if steve has the older version?

Hi Elli - I think my app is the same as on the newer watch (mine is a Series 4). I was thinking of upgrading the watch. Would you recommend that? It would be a nice Christmas present for me from my wife! ;-)

Couldn’t recommend the watch enough steve to be honest. I know a few people on here express concern about people becoming addicted but for me personally it’s been a total godsend. Wish I’d had it earlier and I wouldn’t have had to have gone through the initial drama I went through.

I embrace the tech fully to be honest and think in 20 years everyone will have them on and they will be so high tech and give you so much info that you won’t need to go to the docs unless you need to be seen in person. Technology is going through the roof so embrace it in my opinion.

I haven’t had any older versions of the watch though so I can’t really compare the differences between the 6 and 4 unfortunately. As a stand alone though it’s superb for me 👍

I’m glad to read from another tech lover. I’m with you 100%. I can’t imagine why using technology might lead to anything other than useful knowledge. I suppose that some people might become obsessed but I don’t know of anyone who has so wouldn’t myself have any worries.

Agree completely steve. More knowledge more power in my opinion. Can understand some people would get anxious about it if become obsessive but never had that problem with anything myself. From what I’ve read the best way to rid af and keep it at bay is too become pretty obsessive and strict anyway but each to their own 👍

I couldn’t agree more. The Kardia is getting hammered this evening as I’m having so many PVCs that I’m left hoping nothing more develops.

Steve

I tend to look at the PDF you can download - not sure what others think. And on the inverted waves - you haven’t got the device upside down by any chance?

I am not a Kardia user, but both of those traces state " Normal Sinus Rhythm 62 BPM" at the top ??Why is this wrong?

CDreamer profile image
CDreamer in reply toKMRobbo

Callendersgal hit the nail on the head. If it’s just a few seconds of activity the algorithm cannot analyse so will report either NSR or if unsure - as sometimes happens with ectopics - Unclassified.

Ah, I see.

I can't tell you about your Kardia reading herrlip, but I do know that episodes of arrhythmia recorded on most home-used devices), generally do not flag up anything under 30 seconds' duration as AF.

Send via the app for analysis. I’ve been using the Kardia watch and the handheld for years . It’s good but not 100 percent accurate. It’s not easy for untrained people to interpret.

Yeah, I only just learned which way the V goes up on the device 😆

This is NOT an ad, it's an observation. Here in the States there is a big ad campaign underway to sell this device. We're talking heavy discounting and peddling thru Amazon. I think this board is going to see a ton of new posts after the holidays. I'm not currently using it, but I'm being tempted. Frankly, my resistance is, my QOL is high, my AF is permanent and I probably don't need to obsessively monitor it, which is my fear.

Not what you're looking for?
