Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and ablation

Hey guys was just wondering if there’s anyone who is diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and hypertrophic cardio myopathy and they have done an ablation. I would like to know how successful was it , and how do they feel after the ablation. I was told because of my condition My success rate is between 50 and 60% so I’m just curious to know if there’s anyone in the same shoes as I am.

Just over a year ago I found out I had AF. Had ablation in August 2020. In Sept 2020, after receiving news I had gene for HCM we did more testing and indeed I have mild case. It took about 6 months to really feel good after ablation. Right now no AF, off meds (except Apixaban), am fit, and feel pretty great (over 70). Being monitored every 6 months for HCM. Doctors insist they are two different things but I've read differently. Not much to do but live my life and hope nothing returns.

Hi I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and now PAF. My consultant has suggested a/v mode ablation as I also have a pacemaker. I really don't want to be pacemaker dependent at the age of 68, so have been reading up about ablation. Ablation is more difficult in HCM due to the irregularities in our heart structure and can take several attempts but if you look at the CardiomyopathyUK website there is a lecture under HIM by a Prof Perry Elliott who says that in experienced hands ablation can be very successful. Hope that helps

Thank you for sharing your experience. Yea I think I’m willing to do as many ablation as I could so I can go back to my normal life. This year has been a struggle because everything creeped up on me all at at once the HCM and the PAF and persistent flutter. I thought I was a healthy young man until everything crumbled. But that part of life and I’ll pull through.

Did you have the pacemaker because of the afib?

No, my heart kept pausing. The gift of AFib came 3 years later!!

Like how long would it pause and how many times a day if you don’t mind me asking ?

It didn't pause that often as far as I am aware, but when I could feel it, I could count up to 4 sometimes before it restarted. he biggest sign was feeling faint,Various holter monitors didn't pick it up bit a reveal device implanted in April saw my heart pause for 8 seconds at night in July. I didn't feel it, just woke up with a jolt. Pacemaker fitted about 2 weeks later.
