As an A fib patient suffering from Paroxysmal A-fib currently being “controlled” by medication. I have had 6 episodes during the past 8 years, four of which required a visit to the emergency room and hospitalization. Each time in the hospital/ER I was converted chemically. I've had medications changed four different times along the way. My most recent episode occur 3 weeks ago. I'm sharing this background information to give you some sense of why I am considering an ablation.
As part of my quest to gather more information I attended a three day A-fib conference and learned quite a bit about the new technology being used as well as different procedures to treat A-fib. I live in the US, near Orlando FL. Most recently, I began looking for top Electro physiologists in Florida and found Dr. Robert Fishel, MD, a Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist, affiliated with the Florida Electrophysiologist Associates. While the physician himself might not be of interest to those of you outside of the US, the procedure and technology he uses suggests there is a difference in ablations. His post-ablation studies suggest an 85% success rate for patience with Paroxysmal A-fib. Below is a link to a YouTube video that provides a bird's eye view of Dr. Robert Fishel using the tools and technology to conduct an actual ablation. I'm interested if anyone on this site is familiar with these procedures or technologies and/or has had an ablation using them.
