Migraines after ablation?

SilverliningsForNow profile image

Had an ablation on Wednesday but today experienced kaleidoscopic vision followed by migraine. Anyone else suffer migraines after ablation?

Hi

Yes, it's common after an ablation. I had two spells of funny vision etc. in the first few days. Apparently its caused by the vagus nerve that runs near the heart and can be irritated during the ablation.

It should pass in a week or so.

All best

Well I think it’s more to do with the puncture through the atria septum, which is why they disappear as the hole closes.

Aura migraines are common with people with holes in the septum which don’t close at birth - in my case it worked the other way around - I always had migraines with vision disturbances but after ablation they went away, never had one since!

It’s covered in the factsheet, link below…..

Suffered from migraine with aura every other day for two weeks after ablation. The intensity of the episodes decreased over the two weeks. Each episode lasted about 15 to 20 minutes each.
