Pulse spikes

Does anyone else who has a smart watch see spikes in your heart rate of short duration , 5-15 minutes? Mine goes to 160’s and sometimes 190’s. Doctor said maybe smart watch sees irregular beats and reads it as heart rate spikes. I don’t feel it usually but had one incident of rate being 168 immediately dropping to 37 while exercising. Made me dizzy.

Consider asking the doctor for a stress test.

The doctor mentioned that a stress test might be a good idea. We just sold our house and are prepping for a cross-country move. Will ask new cardiologist about it. Thanks.

Hi, I've got a couple of armbands for heart rate (HR) monitoring rather than a watch. I originally purchased a Wahoo Tickr Fit armband but had the occasional issues with HR spikes when cycling but never any problem when exercising indoors. I also purchased a Polar OH1 armband and put one armband on one arm and one on the other and found that only one armband was showing spikes so fairly conclusive that the problem was with the technology. HR monitors do sometimes have problems picking up interference especially when outdoors. I have noticed a problem with one armband giving incorrect readings when crossing the road at traffic lights. It might be worth buying an additional armband or other HR monitor and you would then be able to track down whether you have a health issue or a technology problem.

Thanks. I also get the heart rate spikes on the treadmill monitor.

That is really reassuring, I actually gave up going to the gym because the treadmill monitor would suddenly display a massive spike in my pulse rate and it absolutely terrified me, I’m sure anyone else would have simply ignored it but as someone who has very infrequent episodes of AF it really worried me. It is very frightening. I guess getting used to a new normal and getting more informed is the answer. This site is such a blessing and a comfort.
