Two months ago I was prescribed 400mg Dronederone twice daily to slow down the frequency of AF episodes and also their duration. These were coupled with 5mg Bisoprolol and my usual Apixiban. Sunday evening at 7pm an episode started and as I write Tuesday 11am still ongoing. So it would seem this drug is also an abject failure. It is impossible to contact Arrhythmia nurse.. helpline is unmanned???? So only option is to ride it out.

Hi John I don't expect a cure from this drug, what I did expect was a longer period without episodes and when they did occur, less time experiencing one. Since two months, in my book, is a short time I'm somewhat disappointed in the outcome. This episode has lasted 41 hours and is still ongoing, I know some people will experience longer but in the past I haven't. I also note that some people can contact their EP but up here that is just fantasy, you are very much on your own and left to get on with it. Rant over!
Don't know what your HR is or your BP. If you are worried you can phone 111 and ask for advice. Sometimes a doctor will ring you back. If you are really worried and have high numbers then I would advise going to A & E. You are obviously anxious which doesn't help. Hope this soon passes for you.
When I changed medication to improve results it took almost six months before it became steady. My results now are very good as QOL goes. Afib not gone however. However, we should always discuss any changes or questions with the appropriate medical professional and then make our best personal decision.
How on earth are you managing with an AF episode lasting that long? Three days! You must be terrified and exhausted. Shouldn't you be in hospital - they can give you drugs to bring it down? Digoxin, administered overnight in hospital by a drip, brought my last big episode down, last year. Since then my episodes have been shorter lived. Hope you feel better soon.
The doctor who did first ablation back in Dec 2018 actually rang last night. He asked if I could get to my health centre for an ECG... no chance I'd have more chance splitting the atom with a wood axe.. Failing that could I attend the Freeman hospital for one on Thursday first thing if the episode was still ongoing. Wouldn't you know it the episode stopped at 8pm last night! One thing he did say was that I was on his list for 2nd ablation early October. I will keep you all updated.
I am on Multaq also, and have been for several years. My doc told me that it would not stop my a-fib, but that it would probably keep me out of the hospital. And it has. I have not had to go to A&E for all this time, although I still have episodes. Because my heart rate is under control with Atenolol and Diltiazem, and the Multaq somewhat controls the rhythm, the a-fib I have now is at a slow rate and not terrifying as it used to be. P.S. I have had episodes lasting as long as 60+ hours, so I feel your pain.
Hi Kia I'm also on multaq and bisoprolol they haven't reduced afib for me either what they have done is make it much slower I still feel knackered though during and after a bout my bouts last approx 24 hrs or so and I ride it out much longer I'd be contacting gp
Why haven’t you got a kardia ? Had mine for 4 years now, as for dronederone, that stuff nearly killed me, it’s supposed to be very closely related to amioderone, not good!Any one ever suggested Flecanide, been a life saver for me, good luck
A small device that you place your thumbs on & it gives you an EKG with heart rate, had mine 4 years, only way to check your heart rate at home accurately.I also just cardioverted myself twice in recent weeks using flecanide & that’s after being afib free for 3 years!
