Hi everyone, I am new to the group. I have found it very enlightening reading all your posts. I have Paroxysmal AF also HCM. I am currently taking 7.5mg bisoprolol, but, my consultant wants me to change to 25mg carvedilol, can I have your opinions and/or experiences.
Carvedilol: Hi everyone, I am new to... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Carvedilol
Has he explained why?
Its because my BPM is only 50 and I am still experiencing dizziness. However, I ve checked the side affects for carvedilol and it appears they include low BPM and dizziness, so I am a little confused.
Bob has given you a good rely ask why. However all beta blockers are different.Doctors tend to use cardio selective beta blockers.Main reason effectiveness with less side effects. The most used beta blocker in the world is Metoprolol.Bisoprolol which is more cardio selective is used more in the U.K.Cardvedilol is an excellent cardio selective beta blocker with additional alpha properties and is the most researched and evidence based beta blocker for heart failure.Side effects of all beta blockers are dose related, and I personally would not worry.I would ask your doctor why,but Cardvedilol is an excellent choice.
25mg Carvedilol converts to 5mg Bisoprolol.

The mantra to keep in mind is that the AF episodes need to be stopped completely (as some usually develop to more).
Have yours stopped on the current medication? If so, the next issue is quality of life, how do you feel on the current medication - presumably lacking in energy? There seems to be a variety of alternatives suggested by the medics out there, so do ask what your options are e.g. I have Lone PAF and was put on Flecainide only, which had to be increased from 100mgs to 200mgs (the medium dose) to stop my episodes completely.
After my stroke I was told I had AF. My cardiologist put me on 10mg Bisoprolol, which I was on for eight years. My HR was circa 45. For the last year my GP lowered the Bisoprolol to 5mg, saying my HR was too low. My HR has moved up to circa 58. I have never noticed any side effects with this tablet.
