I had an ablation back in January, and I have had 3 rounds of afib after the procedure, about 3 months apart. I have had paroxysmal afib for about 10 years now, my episodes used to last 5-7 hrs and typically revert back to sinus on there own. Now the episodes last about an hour, I am on no medications currently, and my EP has suggested weight loss moving forward as opposed to another ablation. I am currently down 30 lbs, and forging ahead, I’m just curious if anyone out there has any experience with weight loss after an ablation or not, and if so how did it turn out. Thanks in advance

Weight loss after ablation
Try to Google prof. Sanders, from Australia. His team is going that way - weight reduction and lifestyle changes instead of medication and ablations. Through the weight loss, you can only benefit, not only regarding arrhythmia...
Good morning and yes, many here will support the case that weight loss will have a positive impact on reducing AF so if you can get your BMI under 25 it will undoubtedly be beneficial. Here in the UK, being overweight will actually prevent some people from being able to have an ablation on the NHS.
The Legacy trials in Australia a few years ago showed that weight loss often removed the need for ablation. A BMI of 25 or better is the aim. It is not uncommon to be refused ablation if obese.
Other work has shown that a reduction in meat and processed foods and a more plant based diet with no additives and fewer chemicals is also effective.
Well done for losing so much weight! That's great- keep it up!
