Tachycardia episodes

Well thats me seen consultant re my tachycardia episodes (approx 1 per week) lasting from 10 minutes to 4 hours bpm around 120 to 130, frequent ectopics which can trigger an episode, all caught on my Kardia device. I made appt with my gp yesterday to see if she could explain what was causing them only to be told not to worry as not a dangerous arrythmia. I am relieved but still wondering why they are happening but most of us are in similarposition

Hi LB.

"10 minutes to 4 hours bpm around 120 to 130, frequent ectopics which can trigger an episode, all caught on my Kardia device"

Wise move so you have a record to show to your doc.

"I made appt with my gp yesterday to see if she could explain what was causing them only to be told not to worry as not a dangerous arrythmia"

That's great news. Maybe you can relax more knowing this - that on it's own can help. You know all should be ok.

I think you should keep the results to show your cardio or EP. For me personally I would not accept a HR of 130 for 4 hours or more certainly not at rest. I know it can pass (and often does) but if it carried on much longer I would act on it.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks Paul for reply. Exactly how I feel. I don't know how a doctor can think it's normal. Without the Kardia device I would probably be dismissed as some kind of hysteric. I am just trying my best to live with them as I have no after effects. Am fit, walk 5 miles a day so fingers crossed

Hi Paul

Are you saying that you would get seen if your heart rate stayed at 130bpm or more with no fluctuation or regardless of fluctuations. ?

I had an episode yesterday where it would fluctuate from 140bpm for a minute down to 60bpm for 5 minutes then back up for a minute etc etc .

I took some extra bisoporol and it lasted 4 hours before the fluctuations stoped

Hi Mjm.

I'm not medic so the opinion is just my personal take. I would dial 111 if my heart rate hit 130 bpm for 3 hours. This is at rest of course (not if you are exercising for example). The last time it happened they acted very quickly and I was sent to A&E and kept in. It was the right thing to as I had developed flutter. Med's changed and all that.

You asked

"I had an episode yesterday where it would fluctuate from 140bpm for a minute down to 60bpm for 5 minutes then back up for a minute etc etc".

I'm sorry Mjm but I can't give you an answer. I am very pleased it settled down and it sounds like the bisoporol worked. That's a big jump though and I know I would feel it. Maybe I would be tempted to try and sit it out - however I think you should dial 111 if it happens again. At least that way you are playing safe and no harm is done - it's just a phone call. Might be worth a call back from your doc too to explain what happened.

Please don't worry or panic - I'm just exercising caution.

Enjoy your weekend.

Paul

My heart rate is also fluctuating wildly. 140 down to 50 up again down again. Feels horrible. Had several hours through the night in the end took another verapimil. 2 hours later calmed down. No sleep that night as I was very anxious. Please anyone don't say just breath and relax. I've tried. Makes it worse that I'm on holiday miles from anywhere in a lodge. Happy days.

Ethel I am different from you. My heart behaves until I go into an arrythmia when it will be a steady 100 to 130 for up to 4 hrs. The folk that tell you to calm down, deep breaths etc obviously do not suffer from heart arrhythmias. Makes not a bit of difference. And I can empathise with you re being on holiday in a strange place. I feel that way when staying in hotel room by myself. Hope all goes well for you Linda

Thanks for this detail because I suffer from the same issues. Question...how do those with similar issues feel in the 24-36 hours after this happens to you? I find that it can takes me days to recover from these events as I am lightheaded and just lack the same focus I would normally have. Is it just me? By the way, I also know how terrible it is to have this happen when you are aware from home. Very sorry you experienced that.

I often have 3-4 hours of AF at 130-150 bpm and I just take my pill in pocket Flecainide and beta blocker. It takes me a day or two to recover as my heart then goes slow at 48-52 bpm and I feel spaced out and exhausted.

Thanks for reply Kath. That's good that Flecainide works for you but shame about the side effects. When my arrythmia stops I have no after effects so will carry on like this for the time being but will keep this in mind.

I am back to normal the minute an attack stops. Arrythmia must affect BP as I feel a rush of blood to head when it stops also took my BP which read 140/110 when I am normally 110/60!
