Will I develop AFib if I have sleep apnea?

Does being diagnosed with sleep apnea automatically mean I will have AFib? Super anxious here. I’m 19 and awaiting on a sleep apnea test in July. Don’t know how long I have it but do recall episodes of shallow breathing when I was younger.

No guarantee that SA does mean automatically you will get AF although it can contribute if you have a pre disposition to AF. Dont spend your life worrying though as the sky might fall down first.

Get your SA sorted and I'm sure all will be well (can't guarantee the sky though).

At your age I would look at Buteyko Method Breathing Methods - healthline.com/health/asthm...

Many people breath through their mouths which can lead to all sorts of problems so learning how to breath, mad though that sounds, can be really helpful.

AF & sleep apnea are known associates but

that’s very different to being a cause & inevitably developing AF. The more triggers you can eliminate the earlier in the process, less likely you are to develop AF.

Quite understandably you being so young you are trying to jump two hurdles at once. There is a danger with this though as you start worrying about things that have not even occurred yet. IF you have mild AF, my view is the condition usually results from a cocktail of issues not just one such as sleep apnea. The good thing is you have found this Forum which can save a lot of time and anxiety!

Hi it is a risk of Sleep Apnea, but you are very young so you will be able to sort it out i am sure long before AF rears its head. I am pretty certain my (Dumb) decision not to take SA seriously caused my AFib , so if you can..... turn your worry into determination to sort out SA..... and enjoy every minute of a life with better sleep!

I wouldn't have thought so. Worrying will make you feel breathless and anxious. Keep fit, eat well and get the sleep problem sorted out and I'm sure you'll be fine for a long long time xx
