Digoxin dose increase

Is anyone taking Digoxin? I have just had a dose increase and now on 187.5 mcg. Since the increase I’m really spaced out, foggy headed, nauseous, lethargic and tearful. Is this normal and does it pass when I’m used to it. I have done an econsult to the GP but whilst waiting on a reply interested in others experiences. Thank you.

I took it for 2/3 weeks in Feb. this year following hospital 'dramas' re heart.I had to stop taking it it as it swung me into a depression from which i have only just emerged.BUT some people do take to it wellsothese are very personal comments.

Wow, you've just summed up exactly how Digoxin made me feel, apart from the nausea which I didn't have. I had to take it pre having a cardioversion. Although I reported how I felt, my AF nurse insisted I stay on it if I wanted the procedure. Never, ever would I take that drug again!

I have a friend who says it's helped her greatly and reduced her AF attacks. We all react so differently to medications.

I really feel for you as this particular drug can create the most dreadful feelings.

Hi I was put on Digoxin for about 4 weeks but my eyes felt strange. Blurry and very bright light unbearable. Since stopping all back to normal. Lots of blood tests required but I had to fight to get mine as our surgery is barred to patients with exceptions if clinically needed.

I take 62.5 mcg Digoxin daily along with a host of other meds so difficult to know what any side effects are of each individual drug but have not had anything as severe as you have experienced thankfully.

I took Digoxin for about a year before changing EPs and having an ablation in April. Though there were many changes in my life during that year that caused anxiety and sadness, I feel the medication also contributed to it. I'm glad I'm off it. I feel it gave me "dark" thoughts.

When I first started with digoxin I was talking 3 .125mcg pills daily. I had none of the symptoms you report. However I was also taking 5HTP. I was being over medicated because the Electrophysiologist was trying to lower my heart rate during Afib which was happening many times per day after 3 ablations..... my heart rate prior to the high dose was approaching 200 BPM. After dosage 55 to 65. After 12 years of high doses of digoxin, I am now down to the recommended dosage of 1 pill daily. Tho my heartbeat is back to approaching 200 during AFIB. The 5 HTP is l tryptophan which you can get naturally from eating Turkey. I did stop the 5 HTP for about a year, but have restarted taking it.I am 71 years old now. I’m sure the interactions of multiple drugs is different at different ages and levels of activity. I still have Afib, 2 types of a Flutter, and sick sinus syncope. At different times, but have not gone into chronic A fib. As was expected by the Electrophysiologist.

Speak to your doctor and keep questioning her/him until you are comfortable with the reasoning behind his decisions and prescriptions

Sorry to hear the issues you have with the increased dose. If you look for any of my other posts, I used to take Digoxin as well as other prescription meds but have weaned off of all but 1 Cardiziem 360mg 1 time per day. Not having physicians that prcatice and know about herbs / vitamins and other natural healing substances, I had to do it on my own.

I have been without any other prescription meds since early 2016.

I just this spring have arrived on a combination that really works for me.

Hawthorn berry/root 800mg twice/day (acts like the digoxin to make heart beat stronger), Ayervedic herb Hridyamrit vati extra power by Divya pharmcy 2 pills twice daily, but this last one has really made a difference for my stamina, and overall health - Banyan Heart Formula - 2 tablets twice daily. Before adding this Banyan formula, I had good days and bad, but now I feel like nearly all my days are good. I do so much more and am much more active with this combination.

I DO take other herbs / vitamins in concert with these, but these 3 reaally make a big difference. Nattokinase is my go to blood thinner. 400FU once per day.
