Coming off Metraprole and making the beta receptors in your heart more sensitive

Evening all

Well finally after 2.5 years on the beta blockers I have been told I can come off them I’m taking 12.5 mg one every two days and ween myself off slowly I got to admit I’m finding it a little tough I get funny beats/sensations round the heart area every so often.

What are people experiences coming off their beta blocker?

Abs can it make your beta receptors more sensitive when you are coming off them?

I'm confused by your message and I suspect others are as well.

Most important: For what reason have you been taking metoprolol?

The smallest tablets I'm aware of are 25 mg. When you say that you're taking 12 1/2 milligrams every 2 days, are you saying that you're taking half a tablet every 2 days? If this is so I would expect there to be ups and downs as it is said that metoprolol acts upon the system for 12 hours. For me it seems to be more like 9 or 10. At the very least I would expect you to cut up the pills into smaller pieces and take them more regularly.

Beyond the above, when I came off of metoprolol it caused me some ectopics but more notably huge anxiety. It's now more than two years on and I'm still taking tiny amounts of clonazepam to deal with the anxiety from coming off of the metoprolol. Still better than the robotic, zombie-like way I felt from taking the metoprolol.

More recently, a new cardiologist persuaded me to try a calcium channel blocker. Very similar problems... Don't get me started.

Been taking metraprole because I have AF but had an abalation in 2019 now my cardiologist has now said I can come of them so what I have been doing is taking a quarter of a tablet every two days do you think that’s not a good way of doing it?

I would think you'd want to have a tiny amount in your system continuously rather than for 10 or 12 hours every couple of days.

How did you come of yours?

I slowly titrated down from one tablet twice a day to a quarter tablet twice a day and finally to a quarter tablet in the evening only as my AFib events nearly always happen at night. It wasn't easy and months later I still feel anxiety from it.

If you're taking a quarter every two days and you feel okay on the days that you don't take any (when there would be none in your system) then I would think you could just stop.
