Just got back from nuclear bone scan which was to take half an hour! Had the radioactive injection snd given initial scan which put my knee out ( pillow under knees and having Scan is to see what problem is with knee)

Too painful to walk so stayed in unit for three and shall hours, in pain, and then got on table for scan proper ( time interval needed for you to shine like lights on Christmas tree on pictures )

Quite painful for knee and worried lying flat and radioactive injection might start AF off but gritted teeth and thought only 30 minutes to go, just starting to feel couldn’t keep in position any longer when told machine broken! Had to stay put while they fiddled around. So took two hours altogether! No AF so that was good. Coming out of hospital I remembered that when I had angiogram two years ago the machine broke!!

Don’t think you’ll be inviting me anywhere where you keep machinery!!! .

When I had bone scan at time of my prostate cancer , we went shopping while the stuff soaked in and I set off every theft alarm in every shop as we walked along. Great fun waving my arm at it from outside. lol

I was offered a whole body nuclear bone scan yesterday. I had spoken on phone to my GP about rib cage pain and long term back pain that in the past six years I have had two MRI's for and a standing X-Ray plus a CT Scan. They showed various problems but nothing that they wanted to treat. This time he referred me for a chest and back X-ray but the consultant suggested the nuclear scan without my even having had any physical examination.

Overnight I'm having second thoughts. I'm 87 and wondering at my age what they would find or even want to treat. I know it's not prostate cancer as I have had laser surgery for an enlarged prostate and follow up tests show that my PSU reading came down from 13.0 to 0.74.

My bone scan was only difficult because hard to keep my knee flat when swollen. It might show things that can’t be treated as you say but no harm in knowing what’s happening I think

I had a similar type of scan on my heart a couple of years ago. That one was done over two days. One with and one wthout the injection. After the injection they had to give it four hours to take effect. As I don't walk well I could not just go for a walk so took a taxi home and then went back later.
