I thought I’d best ask the information department of the place I get my Fish oil and plant sterols supplement about any problems with my PAF, their reply is:
Hello Angela,
Thank you for your email.
Our fish oil products are not known to be contra-indicated with any heart conditions such as atrial fibrillation. Some studies in recent years have looked at a link between the two, but this has only been suggested at very high doses of omega-3s (4000mg per day). OracOmega provides 760mg of omega-3s per day, which is a very safe dose and is not linked to any increased risk of atrial fibrillation or other heart rhythm concerns.
Please be assured that any known health concerns will always be communicated on our product labels, if applicable.
I hope this is helpful, Angela.

There was a recent trial on value of fish oils recently - Published on Web-Med - I think. It concluded that there was some minor benefit for people with CVD, however, a percentage of people in the trial were found to develop AF. The implication was there could be a link but it was interpreted by press as ‘it caused’ AF. I’ll see if I can find it for you.
Personally I’ve stopped taking Fish Oils completely and stick to eating the whole oily fish x2 weekly which will give you all of the Omegas your body requires. I am concerned about the toxicity Fish Oil and lack of adequate monitoring of manufacture.
Quote:- A notable observation on fish oil comes in the accompanying editorial from JAMA deputy editor Dr. Gregory Curfman. He lays out the strong case that fish oil may actually increase incident AF. In the STRENGTH trial, 4 grams per day of EPA/DHA fish oil was compared with corn oil for the reduction of CV events. CV events were not sig different but there was a 69% increase in risk of developing AF in the fish oil group. In the REDUCE-IT trial, 4 grams per day of purified EPA called icosapent ethyl (IE) was compared with mineral oil for the reduction of CV events. IE reduced CV events by 25% but there was a 35% increase in risk of AF with omega-3 fatty acids compared with mineral oil. In the OMENI trial of older patients with recent MI, 1.8grams per day of EPA/DHA combination was compared to corn oil for CV event reduction. There was no significant reduction of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) but again, AF incidence was 84% higher: 7.2% vs 4.0% developed AF.
This is part of the commentary by Dr John Mandrola, good summary of recent trial.
Looks like you got an informed and satisfactory reply to your enquiry - good for them. Like CD, I prefer to eat the fish if I can, tinned sardines and mackerel are a regular part of my diet. Fresh fish (trout, salmon etc.) when I can get it.
I do eat fish, only once or twice. The supplement I get has plant sterols in also. We have a rest while n holidays etc. The Company is very good, I’ve used them for years and are part of a bigger company that supplies therapists. It looks like high doses are to watch for.
