Blood pressure meds and increased heart rate.

I have recently been prescribed lacipidine 4mg for high blood pressure. However I've noticed that whilst taking it my heart rate has increased. I'm also taking dabigatran, omeprazole and atorvastatin. I've always had a good BP of 130/70 and HR about 85. BP suddenly went up to 200/85. Was diagnosed with kidney stone put on BP meds and 2 weeks later BP is still up. Heart rate is about 100. Wondered if anyone else has noticed HR increase with BP meds.

I think it more to do with the stress your body is currently under with the kidney stone than any drugs you are taking but then I 'm not a doctor. lol 😁

That is a very high systolic BP (ie 200) and you say it is still high after 2 weeks on BP medication. If you haven't contacted your GP about this then I feel that you should. Your BP medication may need changing or increasing. Best wishes Steve.

Hi Steve. Doctor has increased my BP medication from 2mg to 4mg per day. BP is now at a good level but heart rate is up to 110 every time i take the meds. Makes me feel horrible with it thumping away when I'm just sitting doing nothing. 😓

Hi Jenna, I notice that one of the common side effects of Lacidipine is quote "dizziness, headache, fast or uneven heart beat (also called palpitations), flushing, swelling particularly of the ankles. These side effects usually go away as treatment continues"

If your heart rate doesn't settle down after a while it may be worth advising your GP. There are many different brands and types of BP medication and trying a different one may result in less side effects for you personally. Pleased to hear that your BP is now at a good level. Steve

Thsnks Steve. Ive been on lacipidine for 10 days now. Bp is better but heart was running at 118 beats till about 5pm then settled at 85 beats. Certainly don't want this every day. I feel exhausted. Have appointment for ECG next Tuesday so hope to discuss alternative meds or something to slow heart rate.
