My BP monitor detect when my blood pressure is out of range (120/80) by a Hypertension indicator, which is most of the time. And also when I'm on arrhythmia it shows a blinking littlie heart. This is at the time when I know I'm on AF, but when I'm not, that little heart is off.
However, doctors say that BP home monitors are unreliable. I'm confused, any comment would be appreciated, thanks

Well, I check my HR by hand first as well as on my Fitbit and I get the three readings very close. May ask, which BP monitor do you use. Thanks for your reply, always is good the see others experiences which help. 👍
I've got an Omron M3. It works fine for heart rates which are quite low but can't cope when they are high. That was true of my wrist monitor too. Is it possible to check a pulse rate of, say 160, by hand? I would have thought not.
Unfortunately, people can be lulled into a false sense of security by these devices. It was only when I got my apple watch that I had a reliable way of knowing what my hr was all the time. It wasn't twice a month but three times a week.
The blood pressure part was near enough but I was still doing it three times and taking an average. Even my doctor does that.
A good BP monitor such as an Omron which, incidentally is used in many GP s surgeries is excellent for capturing blood pressure readings As far as actual heart rate in AF this could be variable anyhow . I have recently replaced my BP machine with an Omron which sounds like yours and am very impressed with it!
Yes, Julia, I think 🤔 we in the same page. Probably some doctors may think mine is a much ordinary monitor such as the one some pharmacy use. The other day as I was feeling dizzy when doing my shopping I walked into the local pharmacy to have my BP checked up and I was surprised when they had one of the simplest one. Thanks for replying as it gives me some confidence. And I will mention it to my GP on next appointment 👍
I wonder whether your newest model of the Omron bp meters is much changed from the earlier ones. I may well be wrong but I don't think they are. What they do have is blue tooth connectivity and all that.
Maybe someone has a bp monitor that always reads a high hr which is over 140 rather than just occasionally.
I don’t know much about these things, but I can just say than my previous Omron Hem-7200, got in 2012, did not showed Hypertension Indicator only Irregular Heartbeat. The new one, Hem 7121, has both, Hypertension Indicator and Irregular HB. Appreciate your comment. 👍
From my point of view an indicator is not much use. I needed to know what the exact hr was. If the indicator is blinking it could be anything, even as low as 90. When you know you've got afib, is it much good having the af indicator? Once I knew exactly what my hr was at any gien time I could record them and produce a graph like this to give to my doctor. Not that it did much good, he just told me to go on taking the bisoprolol every day.
It's a graph of my four hourly heart rates over a period of weeks.

Omron monitors are very reliable and are used and recommended by my GP surgery. However, whilst some models *detect* AF, they cannot always *measure* blood pressure accurately when someone is in AF-particularly if it’s fast AF. Blood pressure will often take a dive when someone is in AF as the heart isn’t pumping effectively I was told by a GP.
