Best portable Afib detector

I'm needing a small at home contraption to tell me when I'm in Afib. My BP reader a Generation Guard tells me if I'm in irregular heart rhythm but doesn't distinguish between Afib, flutter, or ectopics. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

The most popular device is Kardia which is a small mobile which works with smart phone to take an ECG

check out the website store.alivecor.co.uk/produc...

There are other devices such as iWatch which has an ECG function, as do other watches. More devices are coming on the market all of the time.

I also recommend the kardia.

I have a Kardia and find it great to record my Afib episodes. However, it does not pick up whilst asleep or that I might be unaware of.

I recently bought a Fitbit which has an AFib monitor. So far it has picked up one episode when I was asleep and another that I was aware of. The model I have is the Inspire2 and on sale on Amazon for less than £50.

Warning: if you do get it, when you are setting it up you have to say you behave not been diagnosed with Afib as seeming it’s designed to help as a diagnostic tool.

It can give some funny readings on your step count as it reads the high heartbeats as you doing a good workout. It still picks up the Afib.

Good luck

Hi there, I would definitely recommend a little Kardia device , very good & easy to read. I bought the 6L one, so cardiogist had a few 6 Lead readings as well as the two lead ones.No chest stickers required.

All the very best 😊

Having become disillusioned with Kardia (since basically you need to pay a tenner extra / month if you want anything worthwhile and even then, the value is dubious), I am awaiting on imminent EU / UK approval for the Wellue monitors with AI which look like they will be available for under £100, so far as I can tell. Currently the only one of theirs with AI approved is there £300 device and people are really recommending this.

Otherwise, the Apple Watch works really well. The cheaper ECG devices from Amazon all seem to work well but without any AI to tell you what is happening, you are left to read the ECG yourself, which is hard.

I use the Wellue AI Monitor, can use during the day or at night while asleep. getwellue.com/pages/ecg-mon...

I use the Withings scan watch for ECG and detecting af. My consultant said they are reliable.

I use a Healforce PC80B.

It gives a good rhythm trace and it's very clear if the 'P' wave is absent.

No "P' wave is the clearest indication of AF.

Good luck

I bought the Wellue AI for £200 on a deal. You can wear it for up to 24 hrs either using chest pads or a chest belt. Check the website Ozrob has put in post above. The report is extensive ( bit like a Holter) but not immediate like a Kardia or a watch because you have to download data. But you get a full pdf of an ECG over time which you can zoom into to look at particular times when an event happened. Bit of an overkill if you just want to know when you are in AF though, but if you want to distinguish between flutter and ectopics then maybe it’s for you. The report also gives you your AF load, I.e. % of time spent in AF.

I see Wellue now also do a wearable BP monitor without leads/tubes but no idea if this is any good for Afib sufferers.

Kardia Hands down! 💓.

If you have rapid AF Apple Watch is not accurate.

Thanks for all the feedback. Guess I will try one of those Kardia 6L

The latest iteration Apple Watch has been FDA approved to both detect and notify you of AF. Kardia is very good but it doesn’t notify you of AF unless you choose to test yourself.

I recommend the Apple Watch. Mine woke me during the night the first time I had Afib (fast) and several times since. My cardiologist was involved in the development of the app and says quite a few patients have told him it has saved their life. My previous cardiologist compared my ecg with his machine and found it very accurate. It does not check for heart attack but is very good at picking up Afib.

Agreed. We did a lot of research and decided on the Apple Watch.
