Well, that was short and sweet. All they want to know is if you've changed from Warfarin to a DOAC.

Daft last question - “Why did you decide not to switch to a DOAC? *”.

I have never been asked that question therefore it doesn’t make sense.

You could have put because you've never been asked, didn't want to, or get on well with Warfarin, even 'that you're thinking about whether to change'.

A nurse, or may have been a trainee GP at my surgery - she did say, but it's gone from my head now, rang me a few weeks ago and we had a long discussion re changing.

I did exactly that - stated I had never been asked. However that was not how the question was phrased.

Never mind I am sure they think that they know what they are doing.

I didn't get that question. The questions obviously vary depending on your answers

GrannySmithgs5 profile image

Didn't actually ask whether I had ever taken Warfarin so my answers were pointless.

Finvola profile image

I agree - it assumed Warfarin as standard AC and didn't allow for anyone who was started on DOAC's from the beginning. I abandoned it.

Desanthony profile image

Me too. It assumed everyone was on Warfarin but I was never on it so seemed pointless to answer.

Me too, not a very well structured questionnaire

Seemed a bit pointless and strangely worded ...I abandoned it

I abandoned it as i went straight onto a DOAC and there was an assumption people have changed from warfari,.

Waste of time, I also abandoned it as the questions weren't relevant.

Thanks. Interesting read.

That's interesting, I agree with most of the recommendations as long as those with warfarin with TTR > 70% can remain on it

Yes, as others have said very poor survey. Missing the first question - are you on any medication at all (me, no) and the second one are you on any anti coags at all (me, still no). Hopefully no NIChE decisions will be made on the back of this but you do fear...

Jay10 profile image

Same here, could have been asked at the beginning if meds were taken

Done.

I abandoned it because I started on DOAC’s failed to tolerate any of them and finished up on Warfarin. Poor survey.

Most ridiculously worded survey ever!

Survey produced by a graduate newly taken on at NICE maybe? Anyway, someone who knows nothing about the subject and has been asked to prepare a survey from a basis of what they think they know.

I saw three questions. The first was along the lines of "Have you ever switched from Warfarin to a DOAC?" I didn't answer but will return to the survey of it allows me to say "yes I have, but I switched back to Warfarin."

MarkS profile image
MarkS in reply to Thomas45

If you say no to switching, it asks if you were offered a switch, then if you say yes it asks why you did not switch and you can say you tried it and didn't like it!

wilsond profile image
wilsond in reply to MarkS

But if you have never been on Warfarin only DOACs there is no option to say so except after the last question" why did you choose not to change from warfarin?"Have seen better surveys !

MarkS profile image
MarkS

I think the reasoning behind it are to find those who remain on warfarin and find out why. In my case it's simply because I have a very high time in range and then warfarin is better that the DOACs. I sincerely hope they don't do away with patient choice.

Reading everyone's comments the survey seems to vary with the answers you give. Most of my questions were about difference in quality of life on warfarin and on DOACs

Johnboy64 profile image
Johnboy64

Not a very good survey if you’ve never taken Warfarin

djmnet profile image
djmnet

Question regarding health improvements with DOAC and asking me to describe those improvements exceeded my patience and I bailed on the survey. Anticoagulants are for stroke prevention; I didn't expect any "improvements" in my overall good health.

MarkS profile image
MarkS

Sounds like they're fishing for "improvements" in health when switching from warfarin to a DOAC.

wilsond profile image
wilsond

Not sure of the validity of this. Doesn't say it only applies to those on Warfarin! Three questions about whether you chose to change over to DOACs or were offered them
