Rate control strategy

Does anyone just take a fast acting metoprolol or Diltiazam when they go into AFIB, vs. taking a slow release 24 hour dose every single day. It almost seems my AFIB comes on easier when my heart rate and blood pressure is in the low range. Thanks!

Some people are triggered into AF when HR & BP are low, certainly happened to me which was part of the reason I was unable to take any heart rate or rhythm drugs.

Pacemaker sorted out most of my problems.

I did not try it when I was on diltiazem but when I was on 120mg mod release verapamil ( another CCB) in the early days of my afib. I got 40mg normal release tabs which I initially tried as pill in pocket but which did not really work as they were too slow..probably 5 hours plus to take effect from my memory. ( my cardiologist said they would be but let me try) . However I decided I would just keep on the 120mg standard release, but when I got issues I did take an extra 40mg std on top of the 120 mod release to try to control it.
