I had my first cardioversion 5 months ago and had been in NSR until a week ago. I had a funny turn, felt lightheaded, dizzy and my heart was racing and now I’m back in Afib! I’ve spoken to the cardiac nurse and have a phone appointment with EP in May to discuss either ablation or redo cardioversion. I had my AZ jab 5 weeks ago and had no issues other than a slightly sore arm. I did have a blood test a few weeks ago that showed I was anaemic (I am taking iron pils for anaemia already but now the dose has been increased). Maybe that triggered the Afib or maybe it was just waiting to come back?
Back into Afib..: I had my first... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Back into Afib..
You have AF you will get AF I'm afraid. Don't over think it.
What medication are you on?
Thanks Bob, I just hoped I would be the exception and AF would not come back 🤣. I’m on Bisoprolol, Warfarin, Thyroxine, Ferrous Gluconate and Omeprazole. I do have a rare bleeding disorder (HHT) so have regular nose bleeds and GI bleeds. My EP is considering whether I should have the LAAO (Watchman) procedure if Warfarin causes an increase in my bleeds.
After a CV some can only obtain NSR for a short sometimes just minutes or hours while others can go on for a year or more. CV is not a cure but rather a signpost to say that other treatments should work. At present I am in NSR following a CV over a year ago on Feb 3rd 2020 - my 3rd CV. The first CV kept me in NSR for just under 12 months. The second for 5 months and now the third for over a year. I expect I shall go back into AF and am awaiting an ablation which should, even if I need more than one ablation keep me in NSR for a longer period of time.
Take things easy and contact your EP or cardiologist if you are still under their care or your GP if you have been returned to their care after your CV so that they know that you are back in AF and can plan accordingly. Were you given a leaflet on what to do if/when you went back into AF after your CV as you may have to go back on some medication that you were told to come off after your CV?
Thank you. I have been in touch with my EP (have my follow up appointment next week coincidentally!) and hadn’t changed my medication . Ironically I was hoping to reduce my meds next week, I am an optimist! I do read most of the posts on this forum (which is brilliant) so know what is coming... Glad you are still in NSR and long may that continue.
