I take Bisoprolol and Apixaban, more recently I've been prescribed Ramipril. I'm 59.
For the last few months I've suffered from what I can only describe as pulled muscles. This started before I started on the Ramipril. I had a shoulder operation and at first thought the strain in my upper back and neck was related to that. But I've had lower back strain twice, upper back strain, pulled muscles around my shoulder blades, neck pain and the latest is the top of my left neck tendon where it attaches just below my skull. I'm pretty active and fit and never had anything like this. It's been going on since before Christmas. I checked on the leaflets that come with all my drugs and nothing like this is listed.
I have an idea it's related to the drugs I take. Anyone one had anything similar?

Those side effects you describe are often caused by statins ... however you didn't mention any.
Interesting that you take both an ACE Inhibitor and a Beta Blocker, which is an unusual combination. But literature still says taking both types can be effective, at times.
I take Nebivolol and Ramipril and would not say that it is unusual, I know of quite a few people on an ACE Inhibitor and Beta Blocker. I also take Diltiazem as well. I have permanent AF.
I have taken bisoprolol and apixaban now for two months and was already taking ramipril and I also have various aches and pains. I spoke to my GP about this and he didn’t think it could be the medicine, but I can think of no other reason. I presumed it was part of having AF.
I take Ramipril and Nebivolol (used to take biso but changed to nebivolol) have done for quite a few years and do not have any problems as you describe from the medication. I do have neck problems that cause shoulder pain and back pain but I visit my osteopath regularly which helps to sort this out. A lot is to do with tension building up at the base of the neck, one or two session with her and I am good for a few months regarding the pain.
It sounds more like a muscle balance problem originating with your shoulder op. I would see a good physio and get a set of exercises to strengthen and increase the flexibility of your shoulders, neck and upper and lower back.
I was "seeing" a physiotherapist until they decided to go to phone appointments. But it wasn't helping much anyway. The physiotherapist has written to my GP as couldn't understand what was going on but he didn't think it was related to my shoulder. This morning I've woken up with less of the pain in my neck but a pulled muscle above my shoulder blade.
OK, fair enough. I've had shoulder, neck, upper & lower back pains and found physio good, though it's the exercises that have really made a difference. I've got a sheet for the various its of my body and it takes about 45 mins a day to work through them, but my core strength and posture have improved and I'm virtually pain free. I do miss the twice weekly classes I went to, they were a lot of fun and very sociable as well as good exercise. Hopefully they'll be back in the spring. I've got a Theracane stick which is great for self massaging painful spots on my back such as over my shoulder blades.
Hi Paul been taking Apixaban for 2 years with no side effects . do get side effects from statins which l was taking well before Apixaban and my symptons are similar to yours .
I have been taking Apixaban, Bisoprolol and Ramipril for permanent AF (diagnosed after a stroke) since May 2018 with no problems whatsoever. However, as one commentator says Statins can cause in particular shoulder pains. I did to a dramatic extent and now have this documented on my GP notes and therefore not prescribed now. Multitude of other reasons for your pain come to mind , poor posture, ‘trapped nerve’, being two. Referral to a Pain Consultant would seem a good idea but difficult in the present Covid 19 restrictions.
Go easy on analgesics for pain. Non-steroidal (Ibuprofen) not a good idea with Apixaban. I’ve been told Paracetamol only if needed.
Bisoprolol caused all sorts of problems with me on the first 10mg dose including dreadful fatigue and erectile dysfunction. It’s an effective beta blocker for sure but I find the Drs throw it out like sweets, “oh, you have AF, take 10mg of this”
Luckily I found an alternative in Japan, a calcium Chanel blocker called Bepricor.
They say it’s not for everyone, but it fits well for me.
Past few months I suffered from a pulled muscles, because I participated at some competitions. It was almost insupportable. The pain was really bad. A friend of mine recommended me to use thecni.org/ This website is specialized in medicine domain. They have a lot of pills and ointment that could help me. After I used a little from everything, my pain disappeared. I am very delighted that I used this website, that helped me when I needed the most. If you ever have some type of problems like this, I recommend you to use this website with all my pleasure.
