Many people are in permanent AF and are quite unaware of it . So long as your rate is well controlled and your stroke risk addressed there should be no issue.

Hello pridewood, I see you joined the forum back in 2013 but have not used it for about 5 years. It might help us to help you if you let us know if your AF has significantly changed during that time.....thanks

Sorry to hear this. I'm one of the people who are in constant AF. Do you know if your heart is beating at a fast rate?

The answer to your question lies in whether you what to stay in sinus rhythm or not. The definition of persistent AF is constant AF for seven days or more. You are almost there. Once you get persistent, AF begets AF; the more you have, the more you will get. So, if your episodes are getting this long, I suggest you have a serious talk with your electrophysiologist.

Let us know how you get along. I know my answer is not putting your mind at rest. My answer is a challenge for you to re-examine your AF treatment for you may be at a point where you may no longer be able to coast with a stable AF.

As BobD keeps reminding us we are all different . 18 months ago wife who suffers from PAF, had an episode that went on for 7 days. At the end she felt pains in her chest so rang the AF nurse who advised we go to A & E. Another week in hospital having had a failed cardioversion and more rate control drugs and the quacks declared she was now in permanent AF and discharged her. The shock of the news put her back in sinus rhythm 😀

So don't be worried by the length of episode but do take notice if you do get chest pains .
