I can only reply from my own personal experience. I no longer take it but I didn't experience any problems from such a low dose.

That's just me and what I found.

Hope that helps.

Hello Paul. I was taking 1.25mg once a day at night for a few months and experienced lower BP and HR than normal. When I exercised I was out of breath and breathing hard even at moderate exertion, but no pain. I was not taking any other medication.

I have read that bisoprolol isn't linear in its dosage effect so 1.25mg isn't necessarily a low dose, in the usual sense. I have twice recently taken 1.25mg for a racing heart and both times it reduced my heart rate noticeably and caused what you describe, a kind of mild chest pain or discomfort. It's an odd thing to experience, but as I'd had it before I found myself not worrying over it this time round.

During the time I was being weaned off Bisoprolol, due to the rashes it gave me, while on1.25mg I did have an exacerbation of my asthma which led to tightness of chest and chest pain. Fortunately I was in a pharmacy when it happened, close to the medical practice and was soon being treated by paramedics, and admitted to hospital for two nights. So if you are asthmatic, this may be relevant.

I took 2.5mg of Bisoprolol at diagnosis and found it gave me a 'tight' chest and the feeling that I couldn't expand my lungs - horrible feeling. Once the dose was reduced to 1.25mg things got a little better.

Being changed to Nebivolol a few years ago solved the problems. Perhaps this is something to discuss with your medics but I found it took ages to convince anyone that Bisoprolol did not suit me, so you may need to make your case thoroughly.

Personally my issues with bisoprolol seem to come into effect when I up the dose to 2.50mg. I seem to be ok on 1.25 but unfortunately it’s not enough to keep me in NSR and within 4-5 days I am back in AF.

In terms of chest pain specifically I seem to get this regardless so can’t be sure if it’s the bisoprolol or not.

I’ve only taken bisoprolol and flecaidine thus far and without a doubt bisoprolol is winning. I don’t do well on either though to be honest so maybe not the best person to ask. Just thought I’d give my perspective.

Hopefully helps 👍
