Update on flecainide maintenance dose

I posted on here a couple of weeks ago regarding my afib and pac’s. When I seen my cardiologist after having a holter monitor on for 24hours he told me that I hadn’t gone in to afib but had multiple ectopics (up to 10000) in the 24 hours. They were from the atria not the ventricles. I then went on flecainide 50mg twice a day and bisoprolol 1.25mg. I take the first flec at 0600 every morning then have breakfast around 0730/0800. The second flec I take at around 4pm before dinner which is usually 5.30pm. I take the beta blocker around 9pm. So far I don’t feel I have had any major side effects which is great. I play golf twice a week and manage a full round every time.

However, I still get a few ectopics, always in the late afternoon and particularly the evening after dinner. It’s not many and they do feel a lot milder than before so I guess the medication is really helping. I’ve had a few days where I had no ectopics which was fabulous. I have a kardia mobile and my recorded ecg is normal sinus rhythm which is great.

I see my cardiologist in early January but wondered why I get no ectopics when I go to bed (so far fingers crossed) which is after I take the beta blocker and none in the morning or early afternoon. Could the bisoprolol be helping preventing ectopics and it wears off a bit in the afternoon. I might be clutching at straws though but thought I’d ask if anyone has experience of this.

Hi Profound15 , what you say about the beta blockers makes sense.

Like you I take the bisoprolol in the evening. I hadn’t realised until you said it but I see a similar pattern in myself.

(I'm glad this is happening when I’m awake rather than in bed, so feel taking it at night is a good move).

Maybe speak to your GP/cardio about the dose/timing. Also, pharmacists are very good on getting the most out of your meds.

I posted a reply just now on your original post about this, should have looked for this more up-to-date post first.

I am glad you are somewhat better. Now hopefully you and your medics can refine your meds regime to get the balance just right.
