We will have to test the water or beers first as some people can and some cannot. The alcohol may cause ectopics or a different Atrial Arrhythmia. If you have an ablation for AFib then you can still get AFlutter or visa versa.
I think I should get my AF back. during this time I have been without medication (1 year) so I think my ablation is successful and prevents error signals from coming out into the heart. I have not been drinking alcohol for almost two years.
It’s not a question we can answer. Personally, if you are clear of AF I wouldn’t do anything that might prod and awaken the beast.
Where you reactive to beer prior to the ablation? It was a huge trigger for me and even now, although I can have a glass of wine, I need to avoid beer - but alcoholic ginger beer is fine. I suspect it may be more about how the beer is brewed and chemical additives for me.
This is a difficult question. In the first instance I would speak to your EP to ask for his advice. My opinion is that it would probably depend on the quantity/strength of beer that you plan to consume. If you mean just a small beer two or three times a week, I’m guessing that might not be a problem. However, if you are thinking of consuming larger amounts of beer that might be unwise. I agree with CDreamer that if you are free of AF, why take even a small risk that beer might provoke it to come back? I would suggest not drinking or sticking to a few small glasses of wine until you have had a full discussion with your EP about this.
Yes, you can live "normally"... but moderate to large quantities of alcohol, quite simply WILL be a problem for those of us with afib. Over 2 decades ago I decided I did not want to ever get to a point where I could not drink ANY alcohol, so I cut WAY back then. Today, I can still have a glass of wine (white) with my wife ay dinner if I want...maybe 2 for a special occasion. Do I miss having a drinking session with my buddies? Not much... anymore. And that was the best decision I ever made as I can see clearly today. I believe we are fooling ourselves if we think we can get away with drinking as much as we want and live with afib. It's a hard truth, but the sooner you accept it, the better off you will be. And btw, that one drink tastes SO good now...better than any of the multiple drinks I'd have way back then!
