I wake up after about 4 hours of sleep. Can metoprolol cause this?

It doesn't seem to cause that for me, but everyone is different. What DOES wake me up is having to pee! Sometimes I can go for 4 hours until I wake up from a "where's a decent bathroom I can use that's not in the middle of the school hallway" (& the dreams have interesting variations) dream, and sometimes I can go for 6+ hours, with or without dreaming of trying to find a bathroom.
Metoprolol is a lipophilic beta blocker, I.e. it crosses the blood brain barrier and can cause vivid dreams. Not all beta blockers are lipophilic,e.g. Atenolol, which is water soluble, maybe a more appropriate beta blocker,I would mention your vivid dreams to your doctor, and mention that metoprolol which is a very good beta blocker and is lipophilic and causes you vivid dreams and perhaps a water soluble beta blocker would be more appropriate.
Never had any problems sleeping with Metoprolol. You might want to try melatonin to help you sleep. It certainly slows your heart down and lowers your BP.
