To be honest the single biggest cause of AF in younger people is binge drinking and provided that is changed then there may well be no AF again. I suspect de-hydration may well be the reason for your early morning event allied to a sudden shock. Make sure you drink plenty (of water) every day. At least two litres not including any tea or coffee.

Wise words below. Binge drinking a no no. One simple suggestion set your alarm 5 minutes earlier. Just 5 mins. Then you can allow yourself time to move your limbs, slowly stretch. Take a few slow and deep breaths. Get up slowly, sit on the edge of your bed for a few seconds before standing up.

Absolutely second setting your alarm earlier - it's a no brainer! In fact, why not get a sad lamp alarm that mimics the gradual increase of sunlight in the mornings. Lumie make them and there's a variety of prices. I used one for years as I tend to be a poor sleeper and I loved the dimmer function to send me off to sleep at night.

I have had this same issue this past week where I woke up in the morning and AFIB started. It lasted for 3 mornings with the 3rd morning being the worst. It went back to normal after a couple of hours. I am not a drinker and 60 year old. I have been trying to figure out why this is happening and saw my GP the next day. No direct answer other than further tests are needed. Anyone else have suggestions as to why this is happening in the morning?

Any chance you could have sleep apnea? Drinking and dehydration are certainly other causes, but there is link between those with sleep apnea and AF. You may want to consider a sleep study.

thanks for all the answers, i used to smoke weed every day even after i had afib and i remember feeling very depressed and having suicidal thoughts about the direction of my life.now i quit smoking and only drink 2 liters of beer at most every now and then to get out of the routine .. the first time i had afib was after a night of drinking and i had afib as soon as i vomited in the morning, the second time i had afib as soon as i woke up, i got up very fast, scared and boom ...., i don't understand why i had afib, if it was because i got up too fast or a cluster of situations, i was very depressed, thin, smoked a lot, i don't know , I already read an article once that said that depressions cause the levels of magnesium to drop as well as smoking .. I will probably never know why it happened to me and I will always live in fear ... sorry for the long text and thanks for everything
