Hi I am new to this forum. I have had SVT for two years which has been very bothersome this year. I had a cardiac ablation and they managed to treat two areas. Today is day four and yesterday I felt pretty well and went to the shops.... today I feel totally drained and tearful and I’m wondering when this tiredness will lift as dr said I can return to work after five days. The way I am feeling today I haven’t even got the energy to go out and I’m just wondering how long it takes generally to feel like your old self. I am self employed so if I don’t work, I do not earn . Any insight into the recovery of this would be so welcome. Thank you for any support and insights. Samantha.

Thank you I will read his now Bob.

It must be hard Samantha, especially when in your position but if you can stay cool and do as little as possible, certainly for two weeks, your recovery is likely to be significantly better than if you push yourself too hard too soon. Doing that could easily impact on your ability to earn money for a lot longer as well as undo all the good work which has been done to sort out your ticker. Best wishes

Samantha, you poor thing, how on earth did you manage to go out yesterday? I'm afraid getting over an ablation can take many weeks. I've had three over many years and after the first it was almost 3 weeks before I felt better, the second it was almost two months, after the third I felt well instantly. Recovery time is different each time and afterwards you'll get days when you feel well and then days like you are now, tired and exhausted again. So the way you are feeling is quite normal I'm afraid.

Be kind to yourself and please do not attempt to do too much too soon. We usually say do little the first week and then a few gentle walks the second week. Your heart has taken a battering and needs to recover. I could scream hearing you say you were told you would be able to go back to work in 5 days. I was told I would be climbing mountains again in 3. Honestly I'd love these specialists to find out just what its' like!!

We are here for you and understand, please feel free to ask any questions.

Sending you a big healing hug.

Jean

Thank you so much for the helpful replies... this forum has been so helpful today as I really thought it was just me. I think I will take all of your advice and rest. I am such a busy person that I really didn’t look into how this would affect me afterwards and I didn’t ask many questions of the Dr ... only when can I get back to work. Ive definitely realised I have overdone it as I’m completely knocked off my feet today. All of your kind responses have been so enlightening and helpful so thank you so much for taking the time to write back. Kind regards

Samantha

I had my SVT ablation at the beginning of October. For the first couple of weeks I was also very tired and could barely walk a half mile. Tomorrow will be 8 weeks and I'm mostly over it, a few ectopic beats now and then but otherwise OK. 5 days is too soon, my EP told me to not do much for 2 weeks.. Just take it steady.

Oh my gosh, I’m not surprised you’re tired after doing errands on day 3! Take it easy! It takes time for your heart to heal from an ablation. Like you, I was self-employed (now retired) when my heart journey started. Fortunately most of my work was from my computer in my home office so I was able to do some work soon after ablation, but took advantage of making my own schedule and resting as much as possible. So indulge yourself and rest! Best of luck.
