Ablation Update 3

Sorry to make this a saga but today I am a little less depersonalised so hopefully some useful inputs for those awaiting a first or second ablation I will try to be brief but happy to answer in detail if it helps

Before I went in I carefully shaved my upper left leg and groin and it was a great idea don't forget that.

I forgot to cut my toenails really short which made putting he tight fitting anti-embolism tights a bit more of a performance

Expecting to stay overnight and remembering last time I asked for the cannula in the back of my hand not near my inner elbow this made post op movement much less nervy for me,

With the cannula set for a hospital night..... of course I was discharged at 6.30pm but I am sure it is a better place to stop accidental catching on robes & Sheets

when I arrived I asked if "enough to wet my lips" water siplets were OK before the procedure as I was on the no liquids ban and they were fine with that. Well worth doing that if, like me, you are part of "Team anxious" and get a dry mouth

GA was intimidating in prospect but better for me in reality than sedation

Last night in my own comfortable bed I had no ability To find sleep. Apparently this is usual after GA But was somewhat unexpected. Knowing I am on a week of doing nothing I just relaxed and enjoyed my near regular sinus beat, but dont be surprised if you cant sleep have headphones or audio book around and make the most of it

Above I say my heart is "Near regular" because I am having a few ectopic beats 1 or 2 every 4-5 minutes but was expecting that and So not panicking

Only on anti coagulant and nothing else! feels a bit scary TBH

I was surprised to find I put on 4 lbs yesterday during the day having eaten virtually nothing I think that is down to saline etc during the Op

My entry point to the vein bled quite enthusiastically after 2 hours and then an hour later but was OK three hours after that, It was/is my main concern still. IF I was living alone and or far from an A & E I would not have come home.

I am glad to get this done, aware it is close to procedure #1 (10 July) but Fingers crossed it will nail the demon!

I will keep up a brief update hopefully a fully positive one

thanks for reading the saga as it unfolds

Steve

I hope it does for you. Ectopic beats are not unsual after an ablation - that's my understanding anyway.

I certainly suggest taking things easy for a week or so. Give yourself (and your heart) time to recover - you'll get there I'm sure. Put your feet up and relax knowing things are likely to work out and your ablation might lead to sinus.

As for the weight gain. If your not moving about then it's likely you will put on a bit of weight. I'm sure you'll lose it when you are back on your feet.

That's the right frame of mind to have. Well done you.

Glad to hear you're doing well Steve. Your pre ablation tips will be much appreciated by those here about to go down the ablation route.

I am being ultra careful and just sitting reading or net surfing, I think two ablations in one year is more than enough so not doing anything to derail this one :)
