Just walking 30 minutes a day can have a transformative impact on your physical and mental health. This Global AF Aware Week, we are encouraging everyone to get outside each day to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of walking.
Walk with us as we encourage everyone to stay heart healthy this GAFAW.
Earlier in the year I fell downstairs on my bottom. My left leg rode over the treads but my right leg was bent, resulting in a hairline fracture of my fibula, damage to the peroneal nerve, and cuts and bruises. Everything has now healed apart from the peroneal nerve. Its main function is to raise toes and foot off the ground; damage to it results in foot drop.
I wear a leg/foot splint 23½ hours a day, just taking it off to wash.
But every day I go on the same walk. It takes about 40 minutes as I stop either to look at the countryside or catch my breath, (I'm asthmatic as well as having persistent/ permanent AF.)
I walk with a stick, but can't drive so once we are free from the threat of Covid 19, I'll be walking much more often.
