RIVAROXABAN

I was diagnosed with AF following my stroke. I am considering asking my GP if I can change from Warfarin to Rivaroxaban. I know of the three types of AF, ie Paroxysmal, Persistent and Pemanent. But I note that a website says you cannot take Rivaroxaban if you have Valvular AF. W hat is Valvular AF? How will I know if I have it?

My understanding is that you can’t take it if you have had valve replacements, then Warfarin is the only option.

Not sure why you chose Rivaroxaban but the consensus here is that Apixaban is preferable.

I consulted Dr. Google, so you may like this site:

So, according to the site, you have to have problems with your valves to have valvular AF. My GP sent me for an echocardiogram to check my valves.

Hi Derlin

I don't know anything about valvular AF but I'm on Rivaroxaban and I just thought you might like to know that I've had no problems with it.

It's so much less hassle than Warfarin. You just have to make sure you take it everyday as it has no build up cover like Warfarin.

All the best.

Oh and as a P.S. if you need to know anything, keep asking on here, somebody will know the answer😌😌😌😌😌😌😌

I was on Rivaroxaban originally but got put onto a split dose of Apixaban when I had anaemia. This seems to be the preferred NOAC from what I can gather.

Arising from rheumatic fever in childhood resulting in damaged heart valves and AF. I've been in warfarin for approximately 40 years . After an episode of endocarditis I've had a new tissue mitral valve 5 years ago and I'm still on warfarin because of permanent AF. I've bought a testing machine to save all those clinic visits for blood tests. The testing strips are available on prescription. I've asked about the other treatments but apparently they're not suitable for me but I'm unsure why.

Thank you all for your comments, very helpful. I opted for Rivaroxaban because you only take it once a day, whereas with Apixaban it is twice a day.

Be aware you need to take it with some fatty food to get the full effect.
