Just wondering??

My husband is on the generic form of Lipitor. He has been on it for over twenty years. He is also on Synthroid and Lisinoprol and Metoprolol. Back in 2016 his platelet count was 162. Yesterday the doctor told him his platelets are 92. Nothing was said for 4 years that it has been going down until a physician assistant mentioned it. Have been reading that this might be caused by Lipitor and also the other meds. Anyone have the same problem? Maybe heard anything ? He is scheduled to see the Hematologist in November.

Just found this site today and was very impressed with the way everyone is so helpful.

Hi there! I scrolled through and saw your interesting post and felt compelled to reply.

Long story short, I am also on generic Lipitor, Fenofibrate, Toprol, Sotalol, and Synthroid (for 15+ years among several other prescriptions) and I have the opposite problem with usually high platelet counts, so I'm not sure about this.

I will be very interested to hear what your husband's hematologist thinks and his diagnosis if you would be so kind as to keep us updated!

Best wishes to you both...🕊️🙏🌻

I sure will. For one thing, they have cut his Lisinopril in half, now at 20mg, that made the count go up somewhat. Went from carvedilol to metoprolol 50mg. His lipitor is 40mg. I have heard lots of unfavorable things about Lipitor. Told to start B12 Complex. So now we will see, thanks for writing. Get back to board as as we find anything out.

I don't take Lisinopril, maybe that also causes platelet changes. I've been on Lipitor for many years, and as I said earlier, been having high platelet readings for a while now, often over 400, close to 500. Many other medical issues, DVT/PE being two & anemia requiring infusions every 3 to 6 months (depending on if my insurance will pay), so there are so many factors involved. Hematology is quite an interesting field to me, it's amazing science for sure.

Do please keep me updated when possible, very interested to hear what the hematologist says!

Best to y'all...🙏🕊️❤️🌻

So we saw the hematologist and he was not concerned with the platelet count. He said if it gets below 30 instead of the 90 my husband is at. The family doctor lowed dosage on synthroid and that brought glucose count down and the platelet count went up. SO we questioned the hematologist and he wouldn't say one way or another if meds could cause issues with platelets or glucose. Just said with husband's issues to continue on them. I guess with your case a discussion with doctor is all you can do. Seeing hematologist in six months. Good luck, stay well and Happy holidays.

Thank you so much for the update! Yes, your suggestion is best, just discuss it with your doctor. I hope your husband's health (and yours) continues to improve, and you all stay well and have Happy Holidays as well! :O)
