Has anyone here been prescribed verapamil?

If so what is your experience with it?

I have taken Verapamil for c 5 years. It has kept my heart rate well within range.I have perm. Afib. There was an adjustment a couple of years ago and i now take a little less than the original dose .Still fine and very happy with it.So it suits me.

I take Verapamil with no noticeable side effects apart from some constipation.

I was on it for 20 months. It had no side effects for me.

I came off it when my AFIB progressed and I went on daily flecainide and they switched me to diltiazem rate control at the same time. The diltiazem was terrible for me, although I am sure I was over prescribed at 200mg daily, which i assume did not help.

I tried it but it had no effect on me whatsoever - even the ones it was supposed to have - the cardio tried me on lots of medications and in the end the only ones that worked were low dose digoxin but I cam off those after my first successful cardioversion and even though have gone back into AF and had two more cardioversions they did not put me back on digoxin - I seem better off without heart rate drugs and beta blockers they just don't seem to work for me. I just stick to the apixaban. I do hope they work for you.

Hey glad your in a better place. When you stopped your beta blocker or calcium channel blocker did you have to wean off? And what was your experience?

No the Cardiologist told me to stop taking it straight away. I hadn't been on it for very long anyway so maybe that was why. I would take the tablets for about 3 weeks with no effects at all and after the three week stage I would be worse off than I was without them - the cardio tried about 6 different ones and mixes of ones - the only two names I remember are verapamil and bisoprolol and then digoxcin but the higher dose digoxin had the same effect but the lower dose was fine but only on that for about 6 weeks before the first successful cardioversion.

I was switched from atenolol to verapamil. Took it for 3 days only. The majority of the 3 days my heart rate was 200-210. Went to ER and ecg showed afib. Never had afib before only svt. Dr. Took me off of this medication

I take it for B/P control and also Electrophysiologist said it has an anti arrhythmic benefit. which I believe it does for me at least. It works really well for me. No side effects but more a little sleepiness around 5 pm. Maybe thats its peak time , don't know for sure. It's an old drug, been around a while. I like tried and true, personally. Good luck to you, if you stay on it.
