Ectopics are a natural function of a healthy heart and everybody gets them. Trouble is we lot notice!

Stephan, I ave been aware of my ectopics since I was diagnosed with AF in 2013 but I had 'funny turns' for 6 years before that and I can guarantee there were ectopics present then too.

The main effect they have had on me is worry - which makes the darned things worse. My cardiologist says they are benign nuisances. I must admit frequent PVC's - every second or third beat made be breathless and shaky but again, my EP wasn't concerned and they did no harm to my heart.

Now, when I feel them start, I do a slow, deep breathing exercise for 10 minutes or so and/or I start doing something which takes my attention from them. Everyone gets ectopics, but we AF sufferers feel and react to them more and ectopics love attention, like spoilt brats, they then start to show off!! Hard to ignore them but that is the answer.

I first noticed them in my 30’s I am now 65.

Funnily enough they didn’t bother me when I was younger

I've had these for much of my adult life. I've read one large clinical study in which the authors found that almost everyone had them at some point and that they were, effectively, a "normal" aspect of the heart. I've lost the link to that study, sadly but it made me realise that the real problem wasn't likely to be the ectopic beats themselves, but the anxiety created by worrying about them!

I have noticed I had runs of ectopics since my ablation 2 years 9 months ago. Did not notice them before I had the ablation. I would have assumed any odd behaviour then was afib trying to kick off.

I get short runs of thumpy beats for a few seconds. Not had those for many months until last night oddly. I never worried about those .

My main ones present as fluttery feeling in my neck, which is more or less irritating depending on the frequency of the "missed" beats. Initially I was concerned at these as afib restarting but

2.5 years post ablation I ignore them all. My EP was not worried when I mentioned them at my 12 months post ablation follow up.

I am pretty sure I must of had them previous to AF but can't recall. Afib makes people overly sensitive to your heart. During my afib years I got so I could hear my own heart beat . A terrible skill as listening for a missed beat and the threat of afib prevents sleep (and interferes with other activities in your life). I am happily deskilled in this after over 12 months practice of trying to ignore my heart rhythm.

Furthermore IMO, listening to ectopics, and then worrying about them cause stress which causes adrenaline release which increases your HR and BP and possibly exaggerates any heart misbehavior which then make a you worry more - viscous circle!

Stop stressing and things improve.

I also have noticed being a bit ill makes eiher more ectopics or makes the ectopics more obvious so if I get a sniffle then I don't worry if my ectopics increase.

What you need to do (and maybe you already have) is speak to your medics and if they say it's fine then dont stress further.

Also if you have had these for a long while without any harm , then why would this change??

Not medically trained just my observations of myself over the last 5 years.

This is probably an extreme example so please don't be alarmed.

According to my heart specialist and my EP my ectopics were caused by taking Tramadol for arthritic pain for two years.

I was having 30 to 40 thousand ectopics a day.

This led to heart failure at level four as my heart was getting too many conflicting signals.

Medication reduced the ectopics to around 20 thousand a day.

I found a natural way to reduce them to around 300 a day.

My heart failure is now below level two.

Ectopics are generally benign, but if you get as many as I did it can cause problems.

I am wondering if you will share the natural way you found that reduced your ectopics. Thank you. Violet

Hello Violet,

I have had criticism concerning some of my posts so I'm wary about resonding to your question but I see that you are in the US so I can't be accused of trying to sell you something if I tell you. So...

Our bodies - including our hearts- are electrical (that's why we can do ECG's etc)

My heart was getting too many electrical signals so got confused and malfunctioned.

I learned about Earthing/Grounding from a friend who had got good results so I tried it. I just stood on the grass in my garden in my bare feet for half an hour every night just before bedtime for a week.

I slept like a log! (My wife said she could hear me sawing it!) No waking up with the "Big thumps" and I fell asleep very quickly every night which definitely was not normal for me.

I then bought an earthing mat and use it in bed every night. I also have a smaller Earthing mat that I use as a mousemat when I'm on the 'puter.

My ectopics have not returned and this is now well over six months.

I wanted family and friends to get the benefits as economically as possible so I bought a half share of a delivery of 100 Earthing mat kits that my friend ordered and I made them available at cost price. I sold the rest on Ebay at a sensible price that meant that I earned £3 from every pack sold. - Not exactly profiteering is it?

They sold very quickly and, although this was not my original intention, I ordered another 100 with my friend and they are advertised on Ebay. I really want people to benefit from Earthing.

If you want more information Google The Earthing Movie or Clinton Ober.

MD Laura Koniver (Intuition Physician) also has a very informative site with good advice and tips about Earthing/Grounding. Although she is an MD I think she makes more from her Earthing business so be aware that her site is full of "hooks" to get you to buy things.

The free version is always available from Mother Earth so why not try it?

Stand or sit with your feet on the grass, sand, unpainted concrete, etc and see what happens.

I can guarantee that you will get some welcome benefits - including ones you weren't expecting.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

George

Hi George

Thank you so much for your reply

Surprisingly you aren’t the only person that I’ve heard say this worked for them. So I guess there is no harm in giving it a try and see how I go as I’ve been having these for 3 years now and sometimes go weeks and week with non stop pvcs

The best time to try it is when you are having ectopics as you can feel the results and know that it is not because of something else.

Your feet are endowed with thousands of sensors and Nature intended us to stand on the Earth so I find that's the best way to start.

The K1 point is near the ball of your feet and this has a direct link to your brain. You almost immediately go from sympathetic to parasympathetic mode when you Earth yourself. This helps you to relax and is why it is so easy to fall asleep after an Earthing session.

If you want to enhance your experience just make sure that you are hydrated as it is the water in your cells that acts as a conductor.

One caveat - for those who take "blood-thinners."

When you Earth yourself your blood cells become "balanced" electrically. By that I mean that the whole outside of the cell becomes negatively charged. Negatives repel each other so this means that your cells are less likely to "clump" together.

Red blood cells don't have a nucleus so they are able to squeeze through the very narrow capillaries one at a time to carry oxygen to every part of your body.

So... if you Earth yourself regularly you will be getting a natural blood-thinning effect so you might need to check with your Doctor whether you need monitoring and your dose of warfarin, coumadin, etc might need changing.

Hi,I have had pvc’s for about 40 years and it’s in the past year that they have become worse and I am now getting out of breath.I’ve just had another echo done but am still waiting for the result.I am trying 200mg of magnesium but it doesn’t seem to help. Anxiety doesn’t help and having the pvc’s causes more anxiety. Wish someone could find a cure or reliable treatment for those who suffer with this.
