AF and Asthma

Hi guys, I'm now 9 months post Ablation and I'm in reasonably good health considering a few unrelated issues requiring a hospital stay for a minor op. For 6 months after the procedure I had regular episodes of AF which were mild and of short duration but much more prevalent than before the ablation. For the past year I've suffered with surplus phlegm in my throat which led to constant coughing and wheezing especially during any form of exercise and a need to clear my throat at rest. My GP felt a change of inhaler might help as I'd been using Symbicort for about 5 years. My AF had got into a pattern of about every 2 weeks an episode of around 6 hours duration coming on in the mid afternoon. I'd come to expect the onset so was ready to take my PIP Bisoprolol 2.5 mg and rest until it passed. I have now been on the new inhaler Fostair for around 6 weeks and the coughing and wheezing has totally gone and no need to clear my throat even during exercise. The strange thing is I haven't had a single episode of AF since swapping inhalers and I'm curious as to wether there is a link between the two conditions. My oxygen Sat's are about 96/97% at rest and my HR is still around 58/60 at rest so unchanged but I certainly feel better generally. I'm probably talking this up and I'll have an episode later to spoil my optimism but I'd be interested to know if my AF is compromised by asthma and now that's under control the AF will continue to improve. My 12 month follow up with my EP is in December where a discussion will be had regarding a second ablation. Any thoughts or similar experience would be appreciated

Sounds though you may have cracked it. Long may you continue to improve.

Maybe the change is to do with the new inhaler ingredients. The broncodilator element may be less likely to provoke afib. Too much ventolin can provoke afib.

What inhaler was you on in the past ? As any inhaler with a steroid involved is leathal, and caused probably the worst episode of AF I have ever had.
