So I have gone 15 months without an episode until last night. Weird night..not sure what started it but I had banana bread with chocolate in it..then lay down watching TV with spouse..As I was falling asleep the main character on TV apparently was shot and there was a bang which startled me awake. But then I felt like the pulse rate was getting faster..could that cause it?
So I have taken myself out of AFib twice now under the same conditions. It restored sinus rhythm 15 months ago after 4 cardioversion shocks couldn't do it
What happened then 15 months ago and last night? Sex with spouse and then a nap right after. BOTH times when I awoke an hour after the nap I was back in sinus Rhythm. My primary doc was like wow the body and it's mysteries.
I know p people have said exercise has helped them out so same thing basically but mine must include a short nap right after ( yes I know like all guys) or it doesn't go back into Rhythm.
Best,
Kevin

Sounds like you have vagally mediated AF, I am pretty sure I have the same. Right from the early days of diagnosis I stopped watching anything at all violent on TV in the evenings. I am also intrigued by how AF can start and stop with some people after the same action e.g. exercise, cold drink and it wouldn't have surprised me if your post had mentioned your AF started after your post sex nap, particularly in different circumstances if you hadn't already been relaxing and if you had been stressed at all during the day. Again in the early AF days before reducing my stress levels, I found I could not just collapse onto the sofa in front of the TV in the evening without AF starting and so had to wind down slowly. All food for thought.
My AF episodes feel pretty catastrophic so it would be like engaging in sex while plunging off a cliff. That said - I do think post-coital is a period of low risk.
I think regular exercise and a nap three times a day is the way forward for you, provided the wife is up for it. I’m going to share this post with my wife!
I think any exertion that makes your heart race, then relaxing afterwards to recover, can get you back into a better rhythm. For me it's walking from the town to my house which is about half a mile up a very steep hill, or mowing the lawn. They exhaust me and I have to rest, after doing that my heart rhythm is usually so much better.
Could you let me have your spouses mobile number please (evil cackle). I will inform her that you just need to mow the grass. 😂😂🤣
I think it is anything that really gets the heart going fast like sex followed by the nap is what works in my case. Like I said it does not go back into sinus without a nap right after
Im gonna try that! Im in Afib 2-3x a week....... Will have to inform hubby of this treatment: Buckle up, and hold on, this one is for medical purposes...
Hey thanks for all the responses appreciate it! There is definately a correlation between working the heart very hard and then napping helping restore rhythm. So yes doesn't have to be sex..but I am truly fascinated by just WHAT happens from the heart really racing to napping and waking up in restored sinus rhythm. Like I said 15 months apart this was the ONLY thing that worked after trying vasovagal maneuvers.. everything. I have hyperthyroidism for last 3 years which is known to cause afib. But it has pretty well be under control 3 years but I noticed my thyroid blood work was at the higher end of normal during both of these events. However I have also gone into afib on the low end of thyroid levels as well so who knows? Probably a combo of things caused it.
Best,
Kevin
Dunno, but I'm going to insist on this treatment from now on.
