Yes, "Ectopics" - these are either PACs or PVCs.

Hi Padayn :-) are you getting syptoms with your ectopics, many don't . I have had ectopics over the years with no problems and since taking magnesium they seemed to have stopped.

However I am now getting episodes of breathlessness and feeling a bit off when not in P-AF and using my KARDIA (which registered unclassified) I found I was getting long runs of PACs (I sent off for an analysis an excellent service) . On some occasions the runs of PACS preceed an episode of P-AF . I am finding these runs and breathlessnes most unpleasant and similar to P-AF.

The 'ways to stop palpitation' KM Robbo mentions don't work for me and I have tried them many times but I know they are worth a try :-) .

I am seeing my consultant privately in 2 weeks time to discuss medication for my increasingly frequent episodes of P-AF and the episodes of breathlessness. I should have been attending the arrythmia clinic in May to discuss Flecainide but C19 prevented that and the next appointment is October and I don't want to wait that long.

Hi doodle68 I can feel almost every ectopic and they are awful even when I have a good few hours I’m just waiting for them to start again my ectopics are very random where one day they are good and hardly have any the other I have them bad all day, still waiting on my results for 7-day holter monitor

Hi Padayn :-) it sounds as though you are one of the unlucky ones who don't cope well with ectopics. It's not the odd sensation that bothers me it's the breathlessness which I am sure is connected to the PACs.

I do find the one thing that helps to make PACs and P-AF more tollerable is breathing exercises which help to keep the heart well supplied with oxygen and lower stress levels.

I do my breathing which does help a little been taking magnesium with little effect

‘Waiting for them to start again’ says you are in a constant state of alert which will encourage that to happen. I have noticed that you post about them almost every day. Maybe some kind of calming medication or mental therapy would be a good idea? I’m not saying the ectopics aren’t distressing, I know they are, just that you are in a sense encouraging the little Bs!

I know but its just so frustrating i can't seem to focus on anything else, i'm so obsessed with them even when i'm having a conversation with someone i'm checking my pulse its 24/7 headache and stress for me at the moment

Exactly! I did try to avoid the word ‘obsessed’ but that was how it looked. You do need help 💜

My symptoms are exactly like yours. One day nothing, then the next the ectopic beats are nonstop. I can experience a horrible sleep and the next day feel nothing or I could have a great sleep and wake up and then have nothing but ectopic beats all day. I've had all the tests and my doctors conclusion is I'm healthy so I have to learn to live with it. That's the hard part because I feel every ectopic beat. My resting heart rate averages 55 to 60bpm. My heart never races.

So is that what the Docs said? no medication or nothing just live with them? i cannot live with these they are awful especially the ones where there is a slight pause there is no way i can live with that

HANDY1 in reply to Padayn01

I agree with you. It is hard to live with and get used to. When I went to the hospital to have my stress test done, I spoke with the cardiologist and he said to me, he has ectopic heart beats himself. The difference with me and him is, I can feel mine but he cannot feel his. Bizarre...... He told me his main goal was to convince me that I will be OK but as he started, it is not easy to convince someone of that. Like you, I have a heart pause. The pulse after the pause is what I really feel in my throat. How the heck do you get used to something like that when you wake up at 2 am? I do not drink alcohol, I do not smoke, I eat healthy, consume no caffeine and I am gluten free (celiac) and recently lost 30 pounds. I really feel that my hiatus hernia has something to do with it because after I eat, I really feel the ectopic beats until I belch and then they subside. That is not the only time I feel them as they are random and show up anytime of day, for any period or length of time.

Wow I almost thought I was reading about me into just like you eat super healthy gave up drinking in 2014 gave up smoking in 2004 lost nearly 10 stone in almost 2 years I just cannot get my head round that it is nothing to worry about what normal heart does this?

The funny thing is I thought was I was the only human being on the planet that had this unusual type of heartbeat. I soon found out that is not the case. Ectopic heartbeats are quite common. As I said before, the cardiologist I talk to had them and he told me 2 of his colleagues that are also cardiologist also have them. The vast majority of people have some sort of ectopic heartbeat or unusual arrhythmias. The difference with people like you and I is that we can feel them. The only time they can be an issue is if you have some other underlying condition, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, if you are subject to lightheadedness or fainting spells and a whole list of other issues that a person can suffer from. Stress is a BIG ONE..... how can a person not be stressed feeling these beats. Have you ever YouTube Sanjay Gupta? He seems to make a lot of sense about these conditions.

How long have you had or noticed your ectopic beats?

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply to HANDY1

2 months now, ive notice them before but they are happening everyday now

HANDY1 profile image
HANDY1 in reply to Padayn01

Try not to panic. My predicament is almost the same as yours. I can honestly say that I have felt these very randomly over the past few years but in the last four months quite frequently. Because they were so random I gave it no thought and ignored them. I like you, in the past 4 months, feel them almost every day. I have spoken with a few people that have felt them for 20+ years if not longer and they are alive and healthy. It is good to get all the testing done so you know your bodies condition but once they rule out any other underlying issues and declare you healthy, then it is something that we have to get accustomed to. That is something that is easier said than done, for sure.

Thank you for your support means a lot to me my only fear is I don’t want these ectopics to damage the heart long term

HANDY1 profile image
HANDY1 in reply to Padayn01

Everything that I have read and heard states that the topic heartbeats do not damage the heart long-term. That is how people can live 30 to 40 years with these conditions.
