New cooker?

I got my pacemaker about3 years ago. I have heard that some cooker hobs might not be compatible with it. Which ones are they / how do I find this out?

Hi, I don't have personal knowledge but was fascinated by your question so googled it and found the below info on the NHS web site that may be helpful.

I believe that you should avoid induction hobs if at all possible

Yes pacemakers and induction hobs don’t mix.

Anything which emits electro-magnetic inteference like an induction hob you should stay at least a metre away from.

We did our kitchen up a couple of years ago. My neighbour was saying how she loves her induction cooktop. I don’t have a pacemaker but who knows, maybe one day I will. I insisted we installed a gas cooker as I don’t think you can beat cooking with gas. We had to get gas connected to the house so that added to the cost but I’m glad we did.

I've changed from using a gas hob for over 40 years to an induction hob - I love it! Just as responsive as gas and so much easier to keep clean. I don't have a pacemaker and neither does DH but I was aware that pacemakers and induction don't mix. If I need one in the future I'd be sorry to see the job go.

I too made the switch from gas to induction and I love its responsive and soooo easy to wipe down. Let’s just hope I don’t need a pacemaker in the future

Hello I have a pacemaker also, moved into a new house 3 years ago, not realising that conduction hobs could be incompatible with pacemakers, however it was 2 years before I realised and have no more problems than usual .

Hope this helps

Conduction jobs are ok it’s Hallogen hobs which could interfere with some PM’s if you stand over them, which of course you do when cooking.

That’s really interesting, I haven’t got a pacemaker yet but it’s on the horizon. You learn something every day as they say!

I have a pacemaker and a gas hob at home but when on holiday abroad I noticed that the hot food buffets were all using induction devices. I pointed out to the Management that they should at least have warning signs up for pacemaker users but got the usual shoulder shrug and nothing changed.

I have a pacemaker too and have been advised against buying an induction cooker

If I ever need a PM my Aga will not affect it!

I had a pacemaker fitted last month and had to change my hob as I had an induction one.

I asked when I was in the theatre having my pacemaker fitted and the reply was a very stern NO you can’t have one. I had already got one so had to have it removed, shame as I loved it but not taking any chances as I am totally dependent on my pacemaker

I have St Jude PM and just renovated including induction hob. Advice and research says under normal usage no negative impact.
