Papworth just phoned about ablation....

Omg! They asked "would I be happy to come in at short notice?". When I said yes they said 8 am this wednesday!! My brain nearly melted. I'm terrified, shock and pleased all at the same time!

I'm very lucky that Papworth took me under their wing after a private consultation. I was already a papworth patient, but my local hospital refused to consult them and instead discharged me two months ago in afib barely able to move. Papworth in that time have managed to do a cardioversion (just getting back to full fitness after than one month ago) and now this. Thank heavens.

Now need to read the recovery leaflet again!

All I can share is I had mine 3 weeks and ago and felt better the moment I opened my eyes.

I have not had any of the after effects many seem to have. I know its early but for me its like nothing ever happened outside of feeling better, The anxiety was for naught

I know just how you feel. For my third ablation (was a few years ago now) the hospital rang me on the Friday to go in on the following Wednesday! What was even more shocking was I didn't really know I was on a waiting list for another one. My GP's surgery and local hospital had been sending my EP copies of my ECG's. They had a new piece of equipment they had designed and I must have been a suitable person to try it on. I've felt so much better ever since and have not needed to be admitted to hospital since.

Best wishes to you for this Wednesday and how lucky you are to be having your ablation at one of the specialist heart centres.

Great news, the anxiety is definitely 10 times worse than the actual procedure, and always so reassuring to know these guys know exactly what to look for in a patient although we are all so very different.

Wonderful news, I'm sure all will go well. I really want mine to happen soon too.

Similar happened to me, you will have a bag of mixed emotions right now (you will also be taken off some of your meds), the only thing that kept me going is knowledge that it will soon be over and you will have your life back- better than winning the lottery! Don't be surprised if it takes longer to recover than you think but it really will be well worth it, keep us informed.

What good news for you, I do hope all goes well - you are in excellent hands. Do heed the advice of rest, rest and more rest for the first few weeks, no matter how well you will feel. That actually makes it much more difficult to rest but go slow and steady and hopefully you will feel reborn.

I had a similar experience. My hospital sent me home before Christmas on Amiodarone and in Atrial flutter. The Amiodarone masked the flutter and left me running at 120. They wouldn’t take it any further, refusing to consult with a Papworth. Ended up going to see my EP privately. It great you are being looked after by Papworth. I’m going there beginning of June for a cardioversion. I’m really lucky, they are only doing them on Fridays and only one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Thorough deep clean in between. So yours will be the same. Good luck.

All the best to you. I should have had mine in April but of course that was cancelled and waiting on hearing from the hospital. I think just now they have other things to do.

That's great news. I'm close to 4 years since mine. All is well. Running pb's and everything!

My advice is not to rush the recovery and return to exercise. A cautious approach is well rewarded in my experience.

Great news and gives all those now still waiting for ablation some hope that things are beginning to move again in our cardiac departments. Best of luck, print off the information sheets and keep reading them and most of all, steady as you go returning to normal. One step at a time - don't rush and undo what has been done. Everything will be fine. Best wishes.

Good luck! I'm sure we all wish you well. My wife is now terrified they might send for me again any day soon.

I really hope I get the same thing. I’m off shielding currently until the end of June, and I have just been told I can have a second ablation to touch up the pathways. I’m really hoping although slim that I’ll be asked to go before I go back to work. That way I don’t have to mention it to a soul as it’ll all be done when I’m off.

I remember your despair in your earlier posts about the lack of treatment from your local hospital. So pleased that Papworth has come up trumps and wishing you the best of luck (and please don't run for a long time!)

Great! I’m still in recovery from my first ablation which was 4 months ago. All I will say is it takes time, don’t do what I did and rush to get back to normal. Rest and listen to your body. Very best of luck!!
