Just been on the phone to my EP and have been offered an ablation for next month at Royal Papworth. Has anyone been to the new site?
I was in persistent AF previously but since a cardioversion in September, coupled with Sotalol have been in normal rhythm since. He has said the ablation will be my best hope to come off the medication (I had an ablation in 2017) and hopefully be AF free.
Feeling nervous about it now though!

Sorry no idea about Papworth but just wanted to say i wish you well and hope once the nervousness settles that you will feel comfortable and confident that together you and your EP will do everything possible to get the best outcome for you. Pleased you have a pathway to being in restored good health again. Best wishes.
Don't be nervous. I had one in OCT ... my 4th. They are much better now ... than they were even in 2017. I've had worse dental appts than the ablation and recovery. No pains at all.
If this will be your 2nd ablation, then the good news is ... EP's know it often takes two for a 'cure.' My second AFIB ablation gave me 10 years of normalcy. Well worth it!
Hoping for a great success with your upcoming procedure. In .... out ..... done, and healed.
I had a cryoablation at the Royal Papworth hospital a week ago today. Amazing hospital with amazing staff. I was so nervous and scared. The only thing I didn’t like was that it was done under conscious sedation even though I was originally told it would be done under GA. they were supposed to cardiovert me after but couldn’t knock me out enough at the end for it so I was restless and too alert for it to happen. I have to go back in a few weeks for that now.
I hope all goes well for you. I was also told by the EP it would be under GA but it wasn’t. If I have to have another one I would insist on being totally under.
Had mine done at the new site last May. Piece of cake though recovery has been very long and slow. They looked after me very well andthe string knickers were very glamourous!
I had ablation on 20th March 2020 at the new site - the last day the Day Hospital operated before the first lockdown. This followed a diagnosis in August 2019 following a mild stroke caused by the AF.
The experience was first class with great equipment, great care and a great result.
I have now been episode free from paroxysmal AF for a year and was off the dreaded amiodarone immediately after surgery with my dose of bisoprolol reduced after 3 months.
If you have the chance my advice based on personal experience would be don't hesitate.
