I’m well and healthy but have become financial victim to this bloody virus.

I was made redundant today - I wasn’t surprised as I’ve been in the business world long enough to know how things work. At least with a redundancy and my leave paid out there will be funds for a little while, unlike those poor casuals that live from week to week who have nothing to fall back on if they lose their jobs.

I’ll keep calm and carry on .... with all the jobs that have been piling up around the house over the last couple of years.

You sound philosophical about this blow - but a job is more than just the income it brings & a can a huge loss. The financial casualties of this pandemic will cause many problems for millions of people.

Best wishes dear Kaz X

You'll love being retired Kaz, it takes a bit of getting used to at first, but you'll soon be saying you don't know how you had the time to go out to work.

I very quickly started doing voluntary work two afternoons a week and joined a history and walking group. All on hold at the moment with this hateful virus.

Best wishes.

Jean

Thanks Jean. I’ll enjoy my time at home but I will eventually go back to work (maybe do some consulting or virtual work). I’m 11 years away from pension age and with the world stock market and uncertainty we can’t rely on our investments to carry us through. We’ll be right though x

Your not wrong there Kaz, we have taken a hit on one of our investments and bearing in mind our age, we are unlikely to see any recovery but compared with what you and others are having to contend with, it’s not really that important 😭. Stay fit and healthy and in time you will bounce back once all the chores at home are done.....all the best.

I’m sorry to hear that Kaz. You sound to me like the sort of person who’ll grab this opportunity to write a best-selling book or something 😊

Now there’s an idea 💡 😉

Believe me, I’d happily retire but retirement needs funding 😉

In Ireland, everybody including casuals and self employed will get €203 euro a week no question. €305 if in isolation due to symptoms.

That sounds good.

Really sorry to hear this, after all you have been through, and I know you loved your job. My sister was made redundant two years ago and eventually found work; it was hard going but she had a good skillset and you sound the same. Wishing you lots of luck in finding something else that suits.

Thanks - I’m thinking I may try and do some virtual work for a while - writing, editing, resume review and preparation. My husband has lung issues so we may hibernate for a while 😄

She found work writing press releases and product launch articles for companies she had contact with before she was made redundant. She had been involved with publishing a trade magazine and is familiar with a blue pen and a waste bin deciding what is worthy of publication. Not a regular salary, for sure, but it has kept her going. She has to hibernate too; her husband has lupus nephritis and is very vulnerable.

Hope you can still go on your lovely walks! That's what we are doing.
